We’re contemplating a move from NYC to Austin, TX over the summer (we know, worst time to move). We feel that moving all of our furniture with us is the best option as, while none of it is that expensive, it would cost a ton to replace. So far I’ve seen $1600 for a truck from Budget, which doesn’t seem too bad, though gas I’m sure would put it over 2k. I’ve also seen one of those Pod moving services, the quote for that was just over 3k. Any other brilliant suggestions??

We moved to a new province this summer and used United Van Lines. We had a one bedroom apt and sold a lot of our furniture before we moved but still had a lot of boxes, bedroom furniture, and a kitchen table/chairs (we also had MANY boxes full of books which I don’t recommend – so heavy and so expensive when you are paying by weight!) It ended up costing us about $1000 CAD – we had a small portion of a big moving van. We also did our own packing and unpacking to save money. The nice thing about it was not having to lift all the boxes and furniture out of the old place and into the new!! Maybe try getting some quotes from moving companies?
