Hi everyone! 🙂
Ive been following the boards around here for quite some time and finally decided to register. And as it turns out, the last few days have left me with a dilemma that I was hoping you could all help me with.
My SO and I have been together for almost 4 years and it’s finally that time: time for him to put a ring on it! 😉 Originally he was saving to pick one out himself, as he knows generally what I don’t like: no baguettes, no yellow gold, and what I DO like: white gold, round, cushion, or asscher cut stones.
We just returned from an amazing vacation together in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and our love for travel and the finer things in life cemented the fact that I don’t want him to spend a ton of money on my ring. I’m just so excited to spend the rest of our lives together having more adventures and such, and I’d much rather spend our hard earned money on other things! (No offense to all the ladies with pricey rings, I LOVE me some bling, but I’m also kind of tomboyish, very simple, easy to please, put me on a beach and I’m good to go!) While in Mexico we were going to purchase my engagement ring, but we thought it a better idea to wait to get back stateside, and that’s when he decided I could pick out my own ring, which I’m totally fine with.
And now for the dilemma (sorry for all the background jargon…). With my love of massive finger bling on a budget, I’ve fallen in love with Asha and Moissanite. I’ve decided I’m going to get an Asha first and possibly upgrade to a Moissanite when the Amoras come out in 2015.
On the first we’ll be ordering my ring. Except now I have no clue what to get…
I’ve noticed that when it comes to carat and size there are varying degrees depending on the cut of the stone. I originally decided on a 1.5 ct asscher cut Classic Tiffany setting on ashadiamonds.com. I then realized that the asscher at 1.5 ct isn’t actually as large as a round cut of the same ct weight. The 1.5ct asscher is 6.5 mm, but the 1.5ct round is 7.5 mm. I love anything that sparkles, seriously, but this is kind of throwing me for a loop.
Should I go with my original plan of the 1.5ct asscher solitaire or go “bigger” with the 1.5ct round in the Embrace setting? Another factor is that I LOVE cushion cut stones the most, and they are the same as the asscher in terms of size/weight (1.5 ct and 6.5 mm). They also offer the Embrace setting in a cushion. If it helps at all, I have very small fingers, my ring size is a 3.5-3.75. Here are links to the 3 that I’m stuck on. First is the asscher, then round, then cushion.
Will that 1 mm make that much of a difference? I like all 3 but I’m worried I’ll end up picking and then regretting not going bigger! I’m sorry for being all over the place, I’m just so excited this is finally happening and that I’m a few days away from buying my future engagement ring!
All opinions are encouraged! Thanks Bees! 🙂
