I don’t know what kind of advice you’re looking for. Since you’re in IT you know that sometimes shi*t happens and there’s nothing you can do.

Check with them to make sure they ran the disk through Image Rescue software (good stuff like SanDisk or Data Rescue, not freeware).

Once they’ve done that, there’s not much you can do.

I’m not sure why two photographers would need to shoot one event- the point of having two photogs at your wedding is so they can shoot different things going on at the same time.

I would take them up on the recreation (or a different shoot). Even if you don’t think you look as good as on your wedding day, I’m sure you can still get lovely pictures out of it, and some of them might turn out even better than the ones you lost. It’s better than nothing. Crap does happen, you just have to make the best of it.

Do you have insurance? Mine covers this kind of thing and gives a refund. It won’t bring back the pictures, but money does help.

@coffeegal85:  Maybe 1k back if most of the pictures were okay. That sounds fair to me.

They need to give you $$ back! This is also their reputation and what happened is NOT acceptable. I would ask for more than 1k. It depends on your package. I would say 50-75% of the total costs of the photography, maybe more.

I would tell them that you appreciate the upgrade but that since honeymoon weight an short hair are non reversable and that contacting you right away may have fixed some of this you find it only fair they refund a portion of this. I would go with a dollar amount If it was $5000 and you don’t have any of your reception then I would suggest asking for They didn’t now the contract is partially voi so they need to refund.

This happened for our entire engagement session that took 3+ painful hours.  We had nothing left.  The photographers were SO upset and wanted to make things right, so they gave us a lot of ‘extras’ for free during our wedding.  I think they should be at least willing to give you $500ish off.  While they missed some important things, they still caught most of the event, right?

I think I would ask for a partial refund, only on the basis that if there were two of them, they should at least have half of those pictures!  On the bright side… at least you have your ceremony and all the other pictures.  Have them try EVERY freaking recover sw out there.  I once thought I’d lost an entire month of my vacation pictures in Thailand, but after like 4 or 5 different programs, I was acutally about to see the files in the folder and copy them off my hard drive even though I still couldnt open it from that location.

Think of the bigger picture (hehe) and remember that even though you have lost the cake cutting you have all the memories, the rest of the reception and ceremony. A wedding is not the cake and I would cut them some slack and take the upgrades.
