@SoontobeMrsA: A great way to save costs on food would be to have the wedding at like 1pm and the reception at 2 or 2:30 – you can serve snacky stuff instead of a full meal. We looked long and hard at doing that when we were figuring out our budget. ๐Ÿ™‚ And with the Carnival theme, I think that would be great – caramel corn, mini funnel cakes, appetizer hot dogs, etc. (i.e. carnival food).

Have you settled on a venue yet? Are there parks/estates around that you could use for a minimal fee?

(Budget cutting is all about making compromises, hah)

@ddw: We can use his parents lake house for free. It is right on the lake with a little beach we can get married on. The only problem is we will need a tent for the reception.

I think with food we can save a ton by doing all the fun carnival snacks.

@MrsSl82be: That is so nice of you! Can I get back to you after I find out how much alterations would be?

@SoontobeMrsA: Absolutely girl! And depending on how life goes, and I don’t have any work stuff to do at that time, I am more than willing to come up for the wedding to work it if needed.  I can be a DOC, help serve food, direct people, really anything you need.  Also, my SIL is a photographer and I can see what kind of deal she could cut you. She’s from around here, but we could fly up on Southwest pretty cheap.

I also asked to get this stickyed, so we can easily find this thread!

@SoontobeMrsA: Ahh! That’s perfect ๐Ÿ™‚ Two venues in one!

And renting a tent SHOULD be cheaper than paying for a venue.

Do you belong to a church from which you could borrow tables and chairs? Or would either of your workplaces be able to lend tables and chairs for a weekend? Cheaper to rent a truck for a few hours to haul them than to rent them!

I wish I lived closer because I would have a field day with cooking a ton of food for you. Maybe that could still be possible.

@MrsSl82be: I think we’re going to hold off on stickying this. We try to sticky stuff that’s helpful to the entire hive, not just select members.

@SoontobeMrsA: Yeah, your wedding is far enough out that the only thing I see getting in the way is if we have a conference or something, but I should find out by the end of summer this year whether I’m free, and I am more than willing to help out.  I am all about paying it forward, my BFF did sooo much for my wedding, it honestly wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for her.  We had so many friends and family come out to help cuz we didn’t have a lot of money, and it felt so good to be able to make it happen.  I have always loved your theme, and honestly want to attend not only to help, but see this theme come to life!!

@SoontobeMrsA: I’m always down for road trips and I love cooking.  I don’t think J would mind either if the money was right.  You’re still looking to get married in May, right?  Well, my birthday is in May so I could make it a birthday thing too. ๐Ÿ˜›

Actually if it is going to be outside, we may wait til June-September. It has snowed in May here before (on a day I went to a wedding!)
