HELP! My wedding is 2.5 weeks away and I’m JUST NOW finding out that overheating in my dress could seriously be a problem. I had my hair and makeup trial yesterday, so since I was all dolled up I tried on my dress to see how the “final look” will be on the big day. Up until this point I hadn’t really worn the dress for extended periods of time, but I was parading around my parents’ house in it and in about 30 minutes I was getting palpitations, I was feeling hot and nauseous, and had to ask my mom to unzip me so I could run to the restroom before puking on my own dress (thankfully I didn’t puke). How the hell am I supposed to wear this for an ENTIRE DAY if I can’t handle 30 minutes?? 🙁 🙁 🙁
The dress is a bit tight, but I didn’t think it was crazy corset-tight. Don’t know if I’d need to let it out a tiny bit (or if I even have enough time for that??).
It DOES have lots of layers, and it IS hot, but I didn’t think it’d be an issue until now.
Another possible factor is that I’m on my period (I won’t be on the big day, whew!), so maaaaaybe that had something to do with it? Not sure how, but hopefully?
HELP. I CAN’T GO NAKED ON MY WEDDING DAY. And I’m 2.5 weeks out and I don’t have time to rush out and find a new (and lighter) dress. 🙁 What to do??

I think it sounds too tight. I can see getting hot but you shouldn’t feel like you have to puke when you’re wearing it.

All wedding dress are hot! Your dress sounds too tight. See if they can let it out.

Westwood: librarygirl85: Oof, I swear it was fine during the final fitting! Snug, but not “OMG CAN’T BREATHE” tight. But then again, I wore it for like 10 mins max during the fitting. Sigh.

Will your venue be aircondtioned? Keep well hydrated with lots of water. Consider giving your bridesmaid a little fan to use to cool you when you are out of sight of the guests.

You can be bloated from being on your period.
I would suggest the week before and day of making sure you eat lean protein and greens and be SURE to stay hydrated. The dress will stretch out the longer you wear it that day.
I even had my wedding coordinator suggest a fan under the table as MANY brides get really hot and it can fan right up your dress. Those with hoops actually get cooler faster. Those dresses are a lot of layers!

you also probably didnt dance & prance around at your fitting. those things change how you feel cinched up.

Another option might be to get a second “reception dress” which would not require alterations.

MrsTtoB: I’m REALLY hoping that’s the case. I don’t have a history of bloating during my period though (I’m VERY fortunate to have relatively symptom-free periods!), but shoot, Aunt Flo can do all sorts of weird things to you.
andixlyn: Very true. Argh. ARGH. Why does trying to feel pretty have to be so hard?? lol
Consultette: Funny enough, I DO have a 2nd dress! Felt a bit woozy in that one too (tried in on after I took a rest from the near-puking of dress #1), but I’m not sure if it’s because I was still recovering from the wooziness of the 1st dress. Argh.

MrsTtoB: Also: fan under the table!! Genius!! Might have to seriously look into this, haha. Gosh, this sounds so prissy to be all like “(brides)maid, please come fan me!” Very Downton Abbey-ish, haha.

iamsherlocked: the same thing happened to my sister only at the bridal shop! The lady laced her up and started fitting her. All of the color drained from her face and she almost threw up. We determined that it was too tight. I didn’t lace it so tight on her day and she was fine.

Sounds a little tight – absolute worst case you can take five minute breaks to climb out of it every 45 mins or so
