Don’t go. Rude to have an after party & invite only your side of the family, anyway. Just stay firm

alexam : Personally it feels to me that she is looking for confirmation that your family is still the most important thing to you. It would be good to start approaching everything as a couple and making all responses together. I think you could ask her to have the BBQ on a different day and insist she invite your in-laws. Therefore, you are making sure she knows that you are all now one family but you and your partner are in control of your life together.

My parents had a big bbq for our families the day after our wedding and guess what? Me and my husband were not there for most of it, we wanted to spend time together and went out for the day alone to enjoy some drinks and celebrate. We showed our faces for about an hour and showed up when we felt like it. They can’t force you to be there if you don’t want to be!
