@Tess63110:  Gatsby dress! (And congratulations on the awe-inspiring weightloss.)

“Gatsby” is the perfect way to describe the dress, and I love the fit. What’s more the details are stunning (plunging neckline, beading, godets, etc.), which actually make it pretty 1920s glam. Besides…cleavage! That takes it in the opposite direction of “matronly” for me. ๐Ÿ™‚ I agree with “reigning in” the sleeves, though (maybe just cut off the excess unembellished tulle).

The other dress is lovely, as well, but aside from that amazing twisted tulle ruching throughout the dress, it just looks like a plain fit-and-flare wedding dress. You sound like you want a party dress, and that’s what you’ll get with the Gatsby.

I voted for the first one, but if the second one is the one that you really like — GET THE SECOND!!  I wish I had gone with my gut and gotten what I really liked and not what others preferred.  Besides, I think the reason so many of us are voting for the first is that it looks like it fits you better and it is a better picture. The second one just needs some alterations.  It is also super glamorous and has a timeless shape, unlike the first.

@Tess63110:  the asymmetrical dress looks amazing on you (congrats on the weight loss).  tbh, the other dress don’t fit you well and does nothing for your figure.

if you don’t like the asymmetrical dress, i would suggest trying on a few other figure flattering dresses.  what is it that you don’t like about the asymmetrical dress?  what do you like?

I like the asymmetrical one, but I think the top needs to be altered a bit, not sure about the illusion and the one shoulder sleeve together… But apart from that you look fantastic in it ๐Ÿ™‚

Edited to say: I think you should keep looking because it doesn’t sound like you’ve found the right dress yet. Also, maybe don’t ask your family! They are pulling you from the style you love.

I voted for #1, but I think I’ve changed my mind. While you look smoking hot in the first one, I think you’ll look even better in the second when it fits you, and i love the extra bling and drama it has.

I sort of understand the maronly comments about dress 2, but I really don’t think this is a frumpy dress at all. How many older women could actually wear this dress? Given that you have to have an absolutely flat tummy to wear it, I say not many.

I agree with reducing the sleeves, and maybe also think about thinning the straps down if you can, so they are closer to spaghetti straps. At the moment, the main issue I have with the dress is that the heaviness of the straps detract from the ethereal nature of the rest of the dress.

I agree with your own assessment of the dresses.  I really LOVE the style of the 2nd, but the 1st seems more flattering on your body.  Now, that may change once alterations are in place – so that’s what makes this tough.  Will the 2nd actually fit you fabulously once altered?

I agree with what some others say about the 1st also having a gatsby-esque influence, the way the beadinga and flounce sleeve are placed. It looks super unique as well!

@Tess63110:  Yes! I was just about to vote for the Gatsy dress. I think once it’s fitted to you, and maybe with the sleeves trimmed at a little (right now it’s a little too much tulle, esp with the veil) it will all look so beautiful. The first dress – even though it shows off your phenomenal figure – is confusing to me. It looks like it can’t decide what it wants to be. The Gatsby dress is SO pretty – reminds me of a Jenny Packham!
