Hi there! 🙂 I’ve been looking through weddingbee since last month and have been waiting to be engaged for awhile. I showed my boyfriend of 6 years two rings that I really like, but wanted an outside opinion on which ring looks better? I know he is for sure getting one of them, just not sure when he will propose but feel like it’s coming soon! Before when we would talk about marriage, he would change the subject. But now, a few of his friends are getting married/ proposing, so he seems to want to talk more about marriage. He mentioned wanting to give me a ring around my birthday this year (in May 2020), but I feel like he will wait either until our daughter’s birthday in August 2020, Christmas 2020, or our anniversary in January 2021.
Background: My boyfriend and I have been dating since our senior year of high school when we were 17/18. I’ve been wanting to get engaged since we were 21-22years old because I wanted to be married at 25, but he felt we were too young/not ready. We broke up and had a bit of a rocky on/off year from March 2018 to December 2018. New Years Eve 2018 we found out we were having a baby and have been solid/ better than ever since then. We are now 23/24 years old, lived together during three of our 4 undergraduate years, and have a 7 month yr old daughter together. We plan on getting married sometime between 2022 to 2024, since I am still going to grad school for another year or two. We also are living with my parents to avoid renting this year while I took a year long leave of absence from school. Since we’ve done some stuff backwards in our relationship and things haven’t always been perfect or easy with us, I want us to be able to have our wedding be my dream wedding, instead of a small wedding, a court wedding, or eloping. I don’t mind a longer engagement, but I want everything perfect. I’ve seen so many beautiful rings on here and seen other bees help out with these kind of decisions so was hoping someone will reply to this! 🙂
This first ring is from Etsy. (If someone has ordered a ring from LoveRingsDesign shop on etsy, please show me pics! The quality looks nice online, but I’m not sure in person.) It’s about $900 and will be in 14k yellow gold instead of the white gold shown in the pictures. I really like how the ring band reverse tapers! The band width is 1.8mm in the front view and gets wider at the bottom to about 2.38mm wide. The center stone is a 10×8mm (approx. 3ct) elongated cushion cut brilliant moissanite. We don’t have much money, but I don’t want a small stone, which is why we are going with moissanite. (I read from other bees that white sapphire isn’t as good and that a diamond of this size is super expensive). I also really love the detail of the basket and the double claw prongs. There is an accent/peekaboo stone on either side of the basket that will be customized to be an emerald (my birthstone) colored round stone on one side, and a citrine (his birthstone) one on the other. The shop owner gives free engravings, so he is engraving “I am around through every mood” inside the band of the ring. This quote comes from our song, All of Me. The shop owner has been really good with quick communication and answering questions, and they accept payment plans of any amount, as long as it’s paid within 3 months. My boyfriend said he would pay it all at once in full though if this is the ring I want.
This second ring is about $2200-2300, from SamnSue. It will be in 18k yellow gold, it is a 10×8mm elongated cushion cut as well, but online it says it is about 3.5cts. The band is about 2.2-2.4mm wide. It doesn’t look tapered like the other one. I am not sure the exact cut (i.e., old mine cut, brilliant cut, crushed ice, etc) though, because it looks slightly different than the Etsy LoveRingsDesign one. It looks less detailed than the $900 one, but is more expensive…I’m not sure why. There are only 4 claw prongs instead of the double prongs. I prefer double, but still like the look since it is clawed instead of more rounded.
I’m a little skeptical of the first ring (the LoveRingsDesign one) because of this, since I’ve been seeing other posts on here saying their fiancés spent thousands on their e-rings. I’m afraid maybe the $900 moissanite may not be real or great quality since it is significantly cheaper? However, the first ring is my literal dream ring design!! I love that it would have that personalized touch of our song engraved inside and our birthstones as peekaboo stones. I also have read from other bee posters that 18k is weaker than 14k gold, and I would like my ring to last since I don’t want to upgrade every few years. So please, if someone has purchased from LoveRingsDesign, what was your experience/how is your ring now vs. When you first got it??? The SamnSue ring is beautiful imo, but it’s so much more expensive AND less detailed. My boyfriend said he is fine with the price, but that it would take longer to save for that, and he would prefer if he spent more than $1000 to see the ring in person. I feel like $2000 is a lot for a ring, and would rather spend the extra money on saving for the wedding, honeymoon, or other stuff. He feels like the ring should be like $2k because his friends spent that much as well when they proposed to their gfs. (My boyfriend has given me 2 different promise rings that were both sterling silver. He bought a $220 pink sapphire set from Tiger Gemstone, which broke and tarnished after a few months of light wear. That stone looked so dull. He then got me a $40 cubic zirconia Berricle ring that lasted about 3.5-4 years. The silver never tarnished/scratched, the cz is still nice, but the head of the ring snapped off the band when I was moving some boxes. It probably would’ve still been wearable had it not snapped. Because of this, I feel like sometimes more expensive does not mean better quality since my $40 ring lasted so much longer.)
I know this was a long post but am hoping someone replies please to help me decide/ease my mind!!!
