@oliveyou21:  If you can pitch the western tuxedo as a matter of cultural pride or similar you may have more luck.  Mentioning in particular how some members of your family will be wearing full on traditional dress and that it would be neat to see members of his family doing the same might make the endeavor seem less like a chore.

People tend to get excited when asked to serve as ambassadors of their heritage.  Makes them feel all special and fuzzy.

In my experience people of Western extraction are both more casual in their own dress and unlikely to give a flip what other people are wearing.  My husband is, um, obedient, but I had to explain to him about eight million times that, yes, people are going to notice what he’s wearing and form an opinion, which is not what it was like where he gre up, generally.

Have you asked his ILs if they’d like to participate in some element of wedding planning?
