My sister and my husband’s two sisters wore ivory. Do you mean because traditionally no one is supposed to wear a white color besides the bride? I don’t think that matters if you are OK with it.

The purpose of that rule is so that nobody else upstages the bride. Usually there’s very little danger of that anyway – even if a dress is white or white-adjacent, it’s generally crystal clear who is and is not the bride. As long as the dress is very clearly not a bridal gown, that’s the important thing.

That said, there will probably be some guests who will whisper and give her the side-eye for committing what they see as a faux pas. The “don’t wear white” rule is widely-enough known that some people might make comments. Your Future Mother-In-Law should be aware of that ahead of time and decide whether or not it would bother her.
