Hi everyone!
I’m new here but I’ve been lurking for a while. I need some advice and finally decided to post! I have a wonderful boyfriend and we’ve been together for a few years, we don’t live together and both have full-time jobs. I’m in the profession I chose and went to school for and he’s also going part-time to school. We are on board to get engaged soon.
Anyways here’s my problem, he’s planning an elaborate trip for us that I just found out about this week- unbeknownst to me though someone close to both of us slipped up and told me that he’s planning to propose on this trip! Even when he told me about the trip (before I found out about the proposal plan) I told him we should take it for our honeymoon instead, haha. The friend said that it’s all really sweet and I don’t know his entire plan, but the friend said it was very extravagant.
Here’s my problem, I’m worried because we really need to save money. We don’t have a lot for the wedding, we’re paying for it ourselves and we are looking to buy a house soon. I feel guilty because I want him to do what he wants for a proposal but I don’t want him to use his entire life savings on a proposal. I just spoke to him during a break from work and told him that I put “2 and 2 together” and figured out that he might be planning to propose on the trip he planned. He didn’t answer me really, but I told him maybe we could go somewhere less expensive.
Now I feel so awful. I don’t want to crush his perfect proposal plan. I guess I’m just looking for support. I hope that I didn’t ruin anything with my boyfriend. I don’t know. What would you do or would’ve done?
