@canway11:  I went to a store in WI that didn’t have a ton of plus size gowns but some.  It didn’t take me long to pick a dress, but I didn’t get to try on my actual gown.  I just tried on one similar in style and then one in lace and combined the two into a dress I could see in person, but not fit into.  That is always an option as well.  I did get a bit discouraged when I tried to put on a gown that was too small but tried to make the best of it.  So go in with an open mind and if you don’t find a dress that is PERFECT for you then maybe ask if there is a dress in a smaller size (that can be ordered larger) smiilar to one you really like but with a few tweaks… that’s what lead me to mine!  I also don’t know if it helps but every gown that I liked on my body was a Mori Lee.. I found them to all be flattering.

I also think that I’ve heard David’s Bridal has a larger selection of gowns.

I don’t have any dress pictures to post, due to being at work, but I do have 2 at home that I can post later today.

I don’t have pictures from my visit, but try Vera’s in Madison, WI.  I went there and it was FANTASTIC!!  It was the first time that I went dress shopping, so I just wanted to try on different options.  I wish I had lived closer and could have gone back a second time because I may have bought my dress there.  Picture “Say yes to the dress” type service.  Lots of plus-size options…I tried on many different designers.

I ended up getting my dress at David’s Bridal because it was the dress that I loved and that was me.  But they didn’t have nearly the service that Vera’s did.

I went to House of Brides downtown Chicago.  There weren’t any plus-size samples to try, but they were really nice and helpful and I got a great deal on an Alfred Angelo dress.  All of AA’s dresses come in plus sizes for no extra charge, which I really liked.

Keep an eye out for a Brides Against Breast Cancer event. They are fabulous, and you can actually try on the dresses because they have a whole bunch in a full range of sizes. Some are pre-loved, some are brand new (donated by shops and designers), and the volunteers who work the shows are just wonderful. It’s different from the typical bridal shop experience – but in the very best of ways. Plus the prices are great, the money goes to a good cause, and you can walk out of there that day with the exact dress you’ll be wearing.

I got mine at the David’s Bridal in Merrillville, IN. I had heard horror stories about David’s Bridal in general but the service and quality at this location was amazing. I couldn’t have been happier. Normally, I am a 12/14 but I had to get a 16 dress because of my chest. 4 months after I got it, my chest grew (weird I know) and had to have the chest taken out and the waist taken in because I lost weight. I didn’t go back to David’s Bridal for alterations but this was the final product!

Zoomed in a bit:

And I had a 2-in-1 style dress so here is the short version:

@canway11:  Hello!  I am from Peoria, Il and I bought my dress from Bridal Elegance in Ottowa, Il.  They have a huge selection of plus size gowns to actually try on.  This was the first store that I visited and was very nervous and self conscious.  My consultant Amy made me feel very comfortable.  I ended up falling in love with the last dress I tried on there.  I did not want to make any rash decisions and wanted to keep my next appointment in Glen Ellyn, Il at Diva Bridal, a division of House of Brides.  I was very disappointed in my experience there.  The appoint was very rushed and the consultant was not very helpful at all.  They had a much smaller selection of plus size gowns. The next day I returned to Bridal Elegance to purchase my gown and have been very happy since 🙂
