I’m pretty sure that they can get them in in time from David’s. (my engagement is as long as you’ve got til your wedding) My posse was all over the world, so it just made sense for me to pick a color and them to get whatever dress they liked in that color; however, you stated that you didn’t like the David’s purple, so maybe try Jim Hjelm or another bridesmaid company. I will say that although David’s took a while to come it, I haven’t heard about any bad experiences. As for the most petite bridesmaid, my sister had to get their smallest dress (a 4) and have it altered drastically to fit her. Alterations can do wonders. The flower girl, if you want to pick the exact dress out, you’re going to have to visit the girl. Otherwise show the parent a couple of dresses you like, get them to show you what they bought, and call it a day. Hope that helps.

If you go with Davids Bridal, they have to have at LEAST 12 weeks to order or they’ll be really difficult about ordering for you.  As long as you order 12 weeks out you’ll get the dresses on time.  One of my bridesmaids ordered at 11 weeks and 6 days (Seriously.  Not kidding at all) and they said they couldn’t get the dress and had to call all these people and get some special code.  And they were pretty rude about it too.  If you don’t want Davids Bridal, pick out a dress and either have the girls order over the phone from a shop near you that carries it or find a shop near them that carries the designer.

I had 3 bridesmaids, a jr. bridesmaid, and flowergirl that lived far away.   I did not like anything at David’s, so I had the girls go to a reputable seamstress to get the specific measurements needed to order their gowns.  Then, I had them send me their measurements and I gave them to the store where I had selected the gowns.  The employee used their measurements to determine what size dress to order.  If you’re concerned that the bridesmaids will not want their measurements known (by you) they can either put them in a sealed envelope and mail to you OR have them contact the dress shop on their own.  When it came time to get the dresses altered, I just made sure that all of them wore their shoes to the seamstress and had them cut the same length (3/4 of an inch from the ground).  Overall, I think things worked out just fine!

Good Luck!  Smile

Oh, and one of my posse ordered her David’s dress off eBay, so she got it less than 5 weeks from the wedding. And none of my women ordered their dress 12 weeks before the wedding. One couldn’t get her #1 pick of dress, but all of them are in, everything is fine, and no one had any rudeness with the people. So different experiences happen.

My wedding is a week before yours and my girls just finished ordering their dresses yesterday.  I should be getting an email with the delivery date today, but it was estimated to be Oct. 22, which gives us 6 weeks for alterations if necessary, if you don’t order soon, they are able to do rush shipping also.  2 of my girls live here, and 1 out of town and we managed to get 1 shopping trip all together in, and had even decided on a dress from DB that everyone liked, but I hated the salesperson from DB (EXTREMELY rude) and didn’t like the shade of purple either, so we did not order from them.  DB actually did say they could have the dress we picked in 6 weeks if we ordered then.  I took 2 trips by myself to try on dresses, took pictures and emailed them to my girls, and then took 1 more trip with 1 of the girls to try on some one more time.  I didn’t care if they wore the same dress or not, but I did stick to the same designer for the dresses I tried on so I could get the same color purple for all.  They all ended up liking the same dress and I was able to get a great deal from http://www.bestbridalprices.com (they pricematched a 10% coupon from another site and then gave an extra 5% off!).  Ordering was really easy, I called and set up my event, gave them what dress and color I wanted my girls to have then my girls called in and placed their orders in their sizes, paid themselves and each dress will ship to each girl when they’re ready!  Bestbridal has lots of different designers, so you could always look around and see what you like, have the girls find a bridal shop who has samples of the dresses you like and send them there to try them on to see how they like it.

Whew!  Sorry for the novel!

I have 2 locally in Virginia. I have 2 in Texas (different cities though). 2 in Ohio (again different cities. 1 in California and my Maid/Matron of Honor lives in ALASKA!

I found a dress I liked, got their approval, they found stores near them that carry Jim Hjelm, then we called Pearls Place and got a great deal on them and they will be shipped to each girl.

If you order from any large designer (Alfred Angelo, Jim Hjelm, Jenny Yoo, etc) they will be carried by some local bridal store. You bridesmaids each go to their local store that carries this line, checks out the dress to make sure it looks good, gets measured, then you order from your local store. They can also try on a bunch of dresses if they need to figure out which one they like. Same for the flower girl dress. You will need one order if you want your dresses to come from the same dye lot. Please tell the bridal stores in advance if you don’t plan to order from them so you aren’t deliberately ripping off their customer service. Then you will need to pick up all the dresses and mail them to your girls. This is exactly what my Maid/Matron of Honor did when I was her bridesmaid. If you order four months in advance you should be fine.

My BMs are all over the place too!

All I did was say Alfred Angelo Fuschia and told them to go pick out a dress. They all emailed a pic of the dress to me before they ordered it. Then they all ordered their dresses and got them altered. Everything has worked out perfectly.

My sister used Alfred Angelo. I drove up to VA and we went together with one of the other BMs to pick out dresses. They put the style number in the system. Each of the other BMs went to a seamstress and got their measurements taken, called the Alfred Angelo store and placed their order. AA faxed them over a credit card form so that they could pay and then mailed them the dresses once they came in.

It was a pretty painless process.

some private stores will help accomodate orders from far and wide.  Girls can call in their orders and/or measurments.  They may ended up having to do alterations close to home – this is common no matter where you buy your dress.  Sometime’s it’s just easier than trying to work with a store that may not be near you.

All my girls ordered JCrew dresses – they ordered them and if needed altered them on their own terms.
