So I have a few questions about makeup for my wedding day.
I have a longwear lipstick that I totally love and my sister is doing my eyeshadow (I don’t know how and she literally has at least 50 different shades). But I’m a bit lost with the rest of the look. So I guess my questions are:
1. What is a good waterproof mascara? I am wearing fake lashes (not crazy drag queen/caterpillar fake ones but natural looking fake ones) so I don’t need the mascara to be the most spectacular looking thing on the planet. I just need something that for sure won’t flake off or run if I cry. For this, I’m not looking to spend a fortune (think Covergirl/Maybelline type prices) but would really appreciate any brand recommendations! I use lash stilletto daily right now, which I love, but it’s not waterproof and it flakes sometimes.
2. What about foundation? I want my skin to look really pretty on my day. I’m willing to invest a bit of money on nice makeup, but not crazy amounts. I’m thinking around $50 is what I’m comfortable spending. I remember using MAC for stuff like prom in high school but I remember it’s a bit thick… but it’s also only one step, not foundation and then powder. My sister used Benefit for her wedding and loved it… but when she went to the sales counter they showed her all this stuff and she ended up spending almost $200 on makeup! The prices are all a tad high because you need multiple products (foundation and powder). I’ve been reading this board a lot lately and a lot of people say Makeup Forever, but I looked online and the HD foundation and the powder would be like $75, which to me, is a lot to pay for me to do my own makeup. I might as well just hire a MUA. What would you recommend? I’m fair skinned and my skin is pretty low maintenance. I break out only a bit right before my period and don’t have excessively oily or dry skin. Usually, I just wear a tinted moisturizer and some powder.
Any help you could give me would be great. I usually just use inexpensive makeup that looks fine, but I want to look stellar in my pictures! I haven’t bought “fancy makeup” since my high school prom when I bough a MAC compact!! I’m a bit lost! Oh and I forgot to mention that it would be a HUGE plus if the foundation was at a place where someone would look at me and match my skin tone to the makeup for me. I’m pretty bad at that sometimes… Thank you!!!!!

I wore Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H foundation. I went to Macys and they matched my skin ton and gave me a free 10 day supply to test it out before my wedding day. It was around $45. I used powder on my wedding day but I wear this foundation on a daily basis and don’t use powder- so it’s not really necessary.
As for mascara- I use Covergirl LashBlast on a daily basis. It’s waterproof and doesn’t flake.

@alicia1745 – Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll for sure look into those too!
Anyone else have product recommendations???

I second @alicia1745 on CoverGirl Lash Blast. Love. I’ve tried SO many waterproof mascaras that flake super easily, and this one definitely doesn’t!
Foundation-wise, I prefer mineral foundation. I use Bare Minerals, but honestly, Everyday Minerals is good and 1/3 of the price.

I like L’oreal mascaras- I wore the Voluminous Carbon Black waterproof mascara. I like that it stays all day, even though crying, but is easier than most to wash off (I hate when I can’t get my mascara off!).
For foundation, I would actually recommend against mineral foundation, because some people find it washes them out in photos. For full coverage, I love Revlon Colorstay liquid foundation, it lasts forever, and gives a matte finish. The only downside is that it doesn’t come in as many shades as some of the higher end makeup. You could buy it at CVS where they have a great return policy (even on open makeup) and try it out. I’ve also heard great things about NYX HD foundation- I haven’t tried it myself, but I do love their other products. They have more offerings for yellow undertones. If you want to go higher end, I would get Makeup Forever HD- I used that for about a month, and it was great (around $40).
ETA: I would also use a primer & finishing powder. If you want to keep it cheap, use monistat anti chaffing gel (compares to Smashbox primer) & ELF HD powder (compares to MUFE).

I’m going to wear Make Up Forever HD Invisible Cover Foundation. I went to Sephora and the girl tried 3 or 4 on me before finding the right one. So far it’s got great staying power and it is supposed to be one of the best for photos.

Awesome! Thanks guys. I will for sure be checking that stuff out. I was worried about getting a higher end makeup because of all the stuff that comes with it. I’m a bit weirded out about using monestat instead of primer… but if it will work for a fraction of the price I might have to get over it!
@les105 – I agree with you on the mineral makeup. My photographer told me specifically not to wear it because it doesn’t photograph well. She said it can wash you out, make you look super shiny and/or make it look like you have tons of tiny whiteheads on your face. Thanks everyone!
