I personally feel like that is a lot of setting, and a lot of diamond. It competes with each other. Even lowering the setting you’re getting a lot of bling. If you love it that is all that matters. When we set my sapphire which is pretty good sized about 2 carat diamond we had the mount made for it. Though my setting isover the top the way it was made makes the stone look integrated into the design and the setting and the stone play equal partners rather than competition for the overall design. I am not sure if remaking this setting will work for a stone that large or if you’ll contine to get the competion aspect. When you say remake the mount are you actually having it done custom or are they just replacing the head? Replacing the head is semicustom its not custom. To get that ring so the stone is lower set you’ll have to remake the entire design, and some of the aspects not just the ratios will have to change to get the diamond lower. Dropping part of the cathedral may help but it may eliminate the pave underbasket. You also may not be able to drop the cathedral part with a stone that large. I know that is the case with my stone. However integrating the basket into the cathedral will help and that is what happened with my stone. It still sits high but its not rediculously high.

Personally, I had a small center stone handed down in my family (.63) – it’s over 100 years old. Because of the size, I chose a more elaborate setting (I LOVE bling!!!) It actually looks a bit like yours, but with a halow to enhance the center stone. I think with the size of your stone, you might want to go for a more simple band to highlight that beauty! I would have gone that route if I had a bigger one =)

Post pics of what you decide on! It is BEA-U-Ti-Ful.  I don’t mind the rocks being set up higher, just have to be careful not to knock it loose.  My sister in law has a 4CT and it looks like a movie star (seriously)

I think it’s lovely. If there is one thing I would change it would be the top of the band being slightly narrower so that you can really appreciate the size and beauty of the stone. Gorgeous ring.

I would have the stone set lower, if at all possible. I would think a setting that high would constantly catch on objects, snag your clothing, etc.

I would go for a more simple setting.
