is there an actress that you could compare your complexion to? it makes it easier to see the actual shade of someone to determine what is better – and there are different shades of white too.

for instance, i am light skinned black – kinda caramel colored, so i know i wont wear white. my best friend is olive complexed so she wore off white. looked good with her brown hair. another friend was a redhead very pale – she had white white. looked great on her…. so if somoene would play you in a movie who would it be?

It sounds like you’re leaning towards ivory.  It is really really hard to tell a dress is ivory unless it’s next to a bright white one. I wouldn’t worry about looking “dirty.”

and theres no worrying about what type of white you wear – the whole white with virginity thing went out the window a loooong time ago. 🙂

and if you have already tried on a dress and liked the color on you – i would go with the known isntead of the unknown. it might also help to go to the store and see another dress in that color and compare – doesnt have to be the same dress since you are just looking at the color.

hey blingqueen, I think you should go for the ivory dress, ivory will look great against your skin color..i am fair skinned, and i ended up getting an ivory dress, i felt like white would have been too bright for my skin color (although initially i wanted a white dress), i am really happy with my ivory dress..

as far as linen tables go, maybe u could get ivory instead of white, and same for the men’s dress shirts..that’s what i’m going to be doing for ours, it shouldn’t be a problem..in my opinion, ivory would look really nice with eggplant..

but the decision is up to you..good luck!!! i’m sure whatever u decide, it’ll look great on you!

White gowns were not the norm until Queen Elizabeth wore hers and then it became the color of choice for bridal gowns. Prior to that women wore whatever color they wanted or had on hand at the time.

Today there really isn’t a standard color of gown; you don’t have to wear white. You can wear any color that you want.

I am very fair with blonde hair and red highlights. I will be wearing white. I thought I wanted a gown in a different color, but the one that I got in white turned out to be “the dress”.

Whichever color you choose, I am sure you will be beautiful. Get what you want, not what your consultant wants, unless that is what you want too.

Both the white and the ivory will look great with your color scheme.

The dress I’ve ordered only comes in “ivory”, however it’s actually diamond white. Sometimes “white” doesn’t really mean white, and “ivory” means diamond white, candlelight or cream.

If you want to be sure about your choice, go to your closet, try a white shirt, then a diamond white one and then an ivory and you’ll see which color looks best on you.

Also, you can rent table linens in the exact shade of your gown, can’t you? Remember that you don’t choose the gown to match the linens, but the linens to match the gown!

Definitely ivory!  You sound like you have the same skin tone that I do.  I’m blonde, not porcelein fair, but also not super tan either.  I went with the ivory and also had some reservations for your same reasons, but the ivory really makes my skin glow so much more than the white, which washes me out.

I got a diamond white dress (between white and ivory – but closer to ivory), and when we went to look at tuxes, I brought a fabric swatch with and we were able to match the shirts to my dress. So – no worries with the ivory clashing with the shirts because you can get them to match!

If you tried on the ivory and you liked it, I would go for it.

I always thought getting married in white was important to me, however out of all the dresses I tried on, I liked the ivory ones way better.  So I went with ivory!

You won’t clash, don’t worry. Plus, I wouldn’t WANT to match the table linens…then in photos you’ll blend in and you want to be seen!!
