My Fiance and I are trying to decided whether or not to use chargers at the reception. We invited more people than we expected to and if we use chargers at the tables we cannot put anymore than 8 people per table. We’re having a buffet so there won’t be any plates at the table to start. How are you ladies dressing up your tables? is it okato not to have chargers or to you think it’ll be too plain?

It is perfectly acceptable to not use chargers. When guests are picking up their plates at the buffet, you will still have cutlery, glassware and a napkin at each place setting.
You could add menus
or place a favor on top of the napkin

I don’t have a good picture, but we just folded our napkins at each setting witht he glassess and cutlery and then I placed each place card on top of the napkin. We had a pinecone with a tag with each person’s name as the place card.

Chargers aren’t required. I’m using them but only because my linen company was able to get red ones and I wanted that pop of color on the tables. If we couldn’t get red, we would have just used red napkins where the chargers would normally go.

@julies1949: i like those pictures! Here’s another issue- our colors for the room are white and gold. The linens are all white and the chargers were going to be gold. If we nix the chargers do you have any recommendations of what to add for that pop of Gold?

@Smileygabby: Depending on the napkin fold you choose, you could use a gold napkin ring, tie it with gold ribbon, or add any gold embellishment you choose. Check out the dollar stores, florists etc to see what you can find that you like.
Don’t limit your choice because somwthing you like the shape of doesn’t come in gold. You can spray paint almost anything.
I did this for one dinner.

We’ll be having gold chargers but the dinner is being served family style. I think not having them in your case is best!

I like chargers, but they were included already. I don’t know if I’d pay extra for them.
Also, 8 per table is plenty. I know that the tables can fit 10, but it is a tight fit with 10 at those tables.

What size are your tables? I’m pretty sure ours are 72″ rounds and we can fit 10 with chargers or 12 without. Chargers are about $1 a piece to rent.

@RunnerBride13: We are having 60″ rounds. My planner is letting me use the chargers for free! The problem I keep running into is that our room only holds 16 tables comforatably so I may have to put more than 8 people at some tables. I can’t see 9 chargers fitting at one table?

We did chargers on our head table only. For the others we used a napkin, menu card and favour to take the place. We were ok without.

We aren’t doing chargers, as the cheapest I’ve found is $3-5 for each.. seems costly for something that will hardly be used!
We are doing a buffet but the dinner plate, salad plate & soup bowls will be on the table, along with the cutlery, champagne & water glasses, and a cupcake. Will most likely be adding fuschia cloth napkins, a favor at each place setting, and a dinner/drink menu.
