I’m getting married in September and I found my dress out of state so I need to order it over the phone. It’s a Tara Keely fit and flare. I just had my measurements taken by a bridal seamstress in Chicago, where I live. According to the sizing chart of the bridal salon, my bust is coming in at a 14, my waist between 16-18 and my hips between 14-16. I know that typically a dress is ordered to fit the largest measurement, in this case as high as an 18, which seems very big even for bridal sizes. I’m 5’2.5″ and normally wear a street size 6 and a bra size 38B. When I mentioned this to the bridal salon employee she was shocked that the sizing chart would be telling me to order an 18. After the phone call I remembered that the sample size dress I’d tried on had fit me almost perfectly (a little loose in the bust), so I called back and asked what size it was. They confirmed it was a size 12 and they’d only received it a week earlier so there’s no chance it had been stretched out from use. So now I’m even more confused.
Today the bridal salon called the designer and spoke to them about the confusion and they said that I would need at least a 14 to fit my bust size. Which I suppose is better than a 16 or 18 but I’m still so confused because that sample size fit me so perfectly. It’s one of the reasons I fell in love with the dress. While I know that dresses are easier to take in than let out, I’m hesitant to order something way too big and not be totally satisfied with the alterations. Especially because I was so happy with the fit of the sample I tried on.
Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated!
