Firstly, what is your budget for the ceremony? Would you consider having a reception and your ceremony in the same space?

One of my favorite spaces in Chicago is the rooftop bar/lounge at The Wit Hotel on State and Lake. I’ve not been to a wedding there but I can already imagine it being a stunning venue. They have glass ceilings so the view is just stellar, and dark wood furnishings so it’s really elegant without being stuffy.  Having had many a meal in their various restaurants, I would expect their catering to be very lovely, if you decided to do  ceremony and reception in the same space.  I believe they either have windows or a totally retractable roof so you can enjoy the open air if it’s nice (I know they do *something* up there when it’s nice out; I just can’t remember what, as it’s usually winter when we visit and when we were there in the spring, I just didn’t pay attention).

The rooftop bar turns into a very popular night spot late at night so I would imagine, if you were to do your wedding there, it would need to be an afternoon/evening thing and not something that goes till the small hours of the morning, but there’s no rule saying you can’t stick around and enjoy the nightlife.

Rooms are beautiful, and the pancakes in State and Lake Restaurant (in the hotel) are some of the best I’ve ever had.

Check out forest preserves and park districts! I’d also make sure you really make a list asap for guests before you decide on a location. I personally wanted around 100 ppl 125 max and my guest list is 207 right now! I didn’t think it would be that big until we started to write stuff down!

Here is the website for Roof which is the name of the rooftop bar: http://www.roofonthewit.com/

This being a Hilton property, if you end up booking here, I would try to negotiate for some Hilton points as part of the deal.  The hotel is pretty popular so I don’t reckon you’d get a ton of points, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.  We had our hotel block at an Embassy Suites here in DC and I negotiated for 15k points for myself as organizer, plus status points for all the rooms that we ourselves paid for (Hilton generally only gives you status points on 2 rooms per night). As we were paying for DH’s parents, my mother, and the bridal party, this turned out to be enough points for a whole lot of free stuff plus helped me keep my  top level Hilton status for an extra year.

Anyway in a popular hotel like The Wit, they may not feel too hard-pressed to do any negotiating, but the worst they can do is say no. I would just not bring up points until the catering or venue pricing had been sorted.

@hansey12:  Cancer Survivor’s Garden in Grant Park.  I am completely biased because we got married there but its gorgeous.  And price-wise its about $400 for a 30 minute time slot.  There is a cute atrium under the ironwork on the Randolph side that if we had a smaller wedding party we would of held our ceremony there.

I TOTALLY reccommend restaurant ZED451 at Clark and Superior. We booked our wedding here (May 17th 2014) and their private room upstairs holds 80people. We will be married on their rooftop lounge, and the rooftop is costing us $500 per half hour food and bev. minimum. All their rental rates is a food/bev minimum so technically youre spending a certain amount on your event rather than having a flat rental fee! More Bang for your Buck!! They also have 2 mini busses to use for your event for free!! Our Saturday morning private ceremony and brunch reception is costing us $3500 food and bev. minimum!!!! And they also do dinners as well, but all meals have a buffet, and chef passed selections tableside with many options! Such an amazing dining experience. They also can accomodate indoor weddings as wel.

@mbolin08:  ZED451 is a great idea!  Even if you don’t do it there, do yourself a favor and get brunch there some time!  🙂

I’d look into Tavern on the Park at Milennium Park.  It’s awesome.  My cousin had his rehearsal dinner there.  Highly recommend!

Brookfield Zoo is awesome – thats where we are having ours. There isnt a minimum of people – but price minimum is $5000 – but its all inclusive + open bar, recption with the animals, cake, soup, salad entree, linens and they will provide a centerpiece. the room you would have it is really nice and over looks the zoo. THe food is UNBELIEVEABLE – we did our tsting and its really really good.

@jen 42713:  ee I’m also getting married at the Brookfield Zoo!!  I was just coming here to suggest it!

OP, I don’t think you’d be able to do just the ceremony there though, you would probably need to do at least the reception, based on the minimum price thing.  But it is SUCH a unique and beautiful venue, and I would say very reasonably priced.  If you request an information pamphlet, they give a price per head but that price includes venue, dinner, basic linens and settings, head table flower decorations, open bar, and cocktail hour in one of the exhibits.  It’s a fabulous package!
