I’d say if everyone is laid back and would be cool with it then a potluck is fine. My family is pretty backwoods too and I’ve been to potluck weddings. Usually in my experience, the parents of the couple or however is hosting supplys the main dish, iced tea, lemonade, and the plates and utensils and everyone else brings a casserole or other side. Just be sure everyone understands what’s going on.

I think it depends on if potluck weddings are a norm and/or how your guests would feel about it.  I’d honestly talk to a few friends about it and see how they feel.  I’d be more inclined to ask for the help of a handful of people (hostesses that can do this stuff with their eyes closed) than make it one big potluck.  But, again – that’s because potlucks aren’t the norm in my area.

I personally thought having a potluck type reception would be incredible (the ones I’ve attended (for funerals) have always had the most amazing food!))
