I’ve never been pregnant, so I’m not sure if this is on the approved food list, but it’s what I always use to help get rid of a cold. Chicken soup (homemade if possible) with mustard in it.

I drank a ton of warm water with lots of lemon and honey. It helped me tons. I also ate a lot of chicken noodle soup and jello and I took tylenol for the sore throat. I hope you feel better soon!

Ugh.  I’m sorry you’re sick 🙁  All you can really do at this point is rest and stay hydrated.  Until whatever you have sticks around long enough to breed a nice secondary bacterial infection you can’t really take anything for it.  Your body is already going through enough with adjusting to being pregnant, so the tiniest little cold will knock you down!  Get some rest, do your best with fluids!

Never tried it, but I’ve heard apple cider vinegar works great for colds AND morning sickness…

Hope you feel better soon! Make sure you stay hydrated!

@canadablue:  I got a bad cold in my firtrims trimester too, and unfortunately it really stuck around. I was congested for over a month! I went to the doctor but unless it’s an infection, there’s nothing they can do and you have to stay off all meds except Advil or Tylenol. The reality is that your body is more prone to sickness and we create more mucous when pregnant. Mine is finally gone but it wasn’t fun at all! Get lots of rest.

You can’t do much, but I got sick during first trimester and used saline spray like it was going out of style.

I’m in your exact boat!  My cold hit me hard this weekend and I don’t think I’ve been that sick in a LONG time.  I didn’t take anything except for tylenol (I had a super bad headache) and for a few days I was using Flonase for my congestion (my doctor said it was safe) but after doing some research, I quit using that.  I’ve never been able to master the nettie pot and frankly don’t see all the rage.  So right now I’m just suffering through the congestion, which I’ve had for like 6 days now.  Oh, and the mucus is so great!  Sorry I couldn’t give you any advice.  I just wanted to sympathize and also wish you a speedy recovery.  It’s super hard when we can’t take any of this night time miracle pills that knock you out and help you sleep through the worst of it.

Feel better!

Just sending over my sympathy. Never been pregnant, but I’ve found that warm lemon/orangeade (boil water, add powdered lemonade mix and whatever lemon or orange juices you have on hand) helps to open up nasal passages, soothe angry mucus membranes, etc.

If you are really congested, you could try a saline rinse to your nose/sinuses.  Those things SUCK to do, but they are drug free and work miracles!!! Just make sure to do it over a sink.  Unlike the neti pot, it actually squirts it all up there for you and really gets the gunk out.

Another thing you could try for night is a humidifier.

Oh, and please don’t take Advil, that’s Ibuprofen and it’s a pregnancy no-no. But Tylenol/acetominophen is just fine for any pain.

If you get a fever or this lasts longer than 2 weeks with no improvement, call your doctor because you might need antibiotics.
