Was this last Wednesday or this Wednesday? (as in yesterday, or today depending on which country you are in).

If it was last Wednesday and you had sex on Saturday you will be fine. You took pills Thursday, Friday and Saturday, this should be enough. You are technically protected from the first pill (Thursday) specially if you have taken the pill before and you were just off for your period.

If it was this Wednesday and you are worried about sex last Saturday, again you should be fine. I doubt that sperm can swim very well during a period and you’ll be protected from Thursday.

However, in future, remember this: My pills say that if you miss a day to take BOTH pills the minute you realise that you missed a day. So on Thursday you should have taken Wednesday’s pill as well. That being said, you pills might say differently.

I do it all the time and nothing has happened in over 10 years of taking BCPs.  But everyone is different so if you are truly nervous and do not want to take the chance you should use a backup method of birth control such as condoms.  Next time take two on the day you start one day late and then two the next day; you will finish your pack early but that should be sufficient to prevent pregnancy during that cycle (these were the instructions in my old BC pack many years ago so chceck your particular BCP instructions for assistance.)  Missing a pill during the first week is bad because you really need that 7 day cushion duirng the first week to prevent ovulation.  I would take the rest of the pack religiously at the same time every day until that pack is done (carry the pack in your purse and set an alarm if you have to.)

You’re fine, missing the first pill and taking it a day later is not a big deal. Don’t worry about it.

@Everdeen:  “My pills say that if you miss a day to take BOTH pills the minute you realise that you missed a day. So on Thursday you should have taken Wednesday’s pill as well.”

That’s how my pills are too.  I’ve had to do this a couple times when I started a new pack a day late and it has never been an issue.
