I go to a lot of beaches and like to tan a little. What I normally do is do a full body application before leaving the hotel room. I’d advise you to wait 15-20 minutes before putting on clothes or going out to let it completely dry. The key here is the 20 minutes, if you leave right away the SPF will simply melt off when you sweat. You can reapply later anytime if you get a chance to go somewhere that you won’t sweat. I never get tan lines doing that and never tan enough to see a difference where I wore clothes and where I didn’t.

Honestly if I wanted to tan, I would take out a few hours of the day first thing in the morning and use lower SPF (like those low SPF tanning oils from Banana Boat). In this case I would tan in a bikini and still do the tanning oil all over the body.

Lots of SPF, switch bathing suits a lot. Wear coverups and get one of those ridiculously big sunhats (they are in style anyway).

I will be in Maui on Monday and get married on Friday. I think I will get my spray tan wednesday. I plan on just avoiding the sun at all costs (busy with wedding planning anyway). I have seen some pics of brides burnt on their wedding day and figure I will just keep the pool and beach activities  post wedding.
