I think that you should put a whole place setting at each seat.

I would at least have the fork and knife and a napkin to make things simpler. Carrying a plate while trying to balance utensils is hard! Ideally, have the whole thing.

I would set the table with the silver, yes. I think it’s just a nice thing to not have to carry everything back to your seat.

Also, where is the napkin? If the napkin is with the charger, then the silver should be too. You don’t want your guests sticking their hands in a bin (or similar) to pick out individual silver.

If you decide to put the silverware on the buffet, each setting should be individually wrapped in a napkin, it’s just more sanitary.

I used to be banquet captain.

I went to a wedding with chargers and no silverware, we were so confused as to whether or not there was going to be a meal provided! In the end they did not serve a full meal, so why the heck did they have chargers? I say put silverware, even if its not going to be heavily used it will look cohesive, plus some people might want to eat their fajitas with silverware so as not to get dirty, etc.

Fork, knife, spoon AND dessert fork. Keep the utensils at the table so guests don’t have to juggle them in the buffet line.

We are doing something similar and will be wrapping utensils at the buffet table with napkins..people will be sitting wherever they want and we definately want it to be more of a fun party rather than a formal dinner type thing..I know most will disagree but it’s the way that we want it done.
