I went dress shopping for the first time this past weekend and am having trouble “saying yes to the dress!” The types of dresses that have always really caught my eye are ballgown dresses with sparkly, bejeweled bodices. After trying on every imaginable dress style, I think this is the one for me:
Unfortunately, I like the look of the sparkly-top dresses on me, too – it seems that it’s very difficult to find a sparkly-top ballgown with a clearly defined top and bottom part without the bottom part being tulle. Example of dress with a top that I love with a bottom I wouldn’t want:
Honestly though, even if I could find a sparkly ballgown with a satin skirt, I don’t know that I would select that gown – I’m petite and have found that a lot of the more intricate gowns are too much dress for me. My venue is also rather “rustic” and I don’t know that a super sparkly dress would look right anyway.
So, I’m thinking that the first dress is the one for me (and I love it – it makes me excited to pick out accessories and hairstyles and makeup!), but I’m having a hard time letting go of the fact that I always thought I would have a ballgown with a sparkly bodice and wasn’t able to try on one that was quite what I was looking for in order to formally rule it out.
Any thoughts, wisdom, words of encouragement, etc. would be appreciated! 🙂

I think you look beautiful in both of those dresses, and you can’t go wrong either way. If you don’t like tulle bottoms, then the top dress is definitely the right choice for you and the belt will at least make it a little sparkly 🙂

You look so gorgeous in both gowns!! I personally prefer the dress with the tulle, but you really do look so gorgeous in the satin one. At thee nd of the day, it’s all about what will make you feel like a bride! You look gorgeous in them both and can’t go wrong either way!

In the first one you look absolutely stunning! I think the wrapped satin does more for shape than the sparkly top. I would totally buy the top one!

It’s probably difficult to find ballgowns with heavily beaded tops and non-tulle skirts because the combination of beading + most other fabrics (such as satin), would likely make for a very heavy dress. I like the satin one better on you, but in the end, it is your choice.

I love the first dress on you. it’s so flattering and beautiful. I agree that the top of the second dress is a little more interesting, but the tulle isn’t as flattering. you do look awesome in both dresses though! but the first one really shows your tiny waist. i think the second is just too poofy. but thats my opinion.

Im totally biased as I love plain satin dresses, but that first one is really something on you. You could pick any dress and you’d look fab but I think the top one is timeless. When’s your wedding? Do you have to decide now? Why not sleep on it for a couple of weeks and see how you feel then.

In the top one you are a stunning sophisticated woman, in the bottom one you are a stunning flirty woman. What look at you going for?? 🙂

I think you should keep looking. There are definitely some dresses out there that marry both of your ideas, like this one: http://www.allurebridals.com/products/9003.

I love the ruching on the first dress, it looks stunning on you! The belt gives you a little more bling, maybe not as much as you’d like, though.
Agree that you cannot go wrong with either. I’m a sucker for ruching so I’d personally go with #1.

I love the first dress, very pretty, soft, romantic and feminine, and very bridal – some gowns scream prom. But if it’s not 100% what you’re looking for, dont settle. When is your wedding. Do you have time to keep looking?

It was only your first weekend trying them on. Give yourself some time. Try some more dresses on. Take some more time. It will only make you more certain that it’s the one…if it is! They both look good on your frame too. So whether you go with one of those, or another one, I’m sure it’s going go look good!

I love the first one! If I had known something like that was out there, I would have worn it for my own wedding! You can totally pull it off too 🙂

Both are equally beautiful 🙂
