Unless they have policy on a minimum you must spend I don’t think its fair they do that. I also heard a lot of people say if its wedding they charge different prices then what they have on the menu.

Wait, what? I’m confused…what was the original price–57?

Everything hinges on the definition of a “few” dollars per person. Their idea seems to be different than yours.

If they had a wedding of 100 people at $57 each=$5700

your wedding with 50 people at $67 each= $3350.

They are still making less money by doing your wedding.

This is an example of why details need to be nailed down before signing the contract.

I see a $10 difference.

I still think its unfair if they don’t require you meet an a balance. If they are charging you more, you should demand that they give your more. If they had issue with that they were well within their rights to refuse to do the wedding or write into the contract that you must spend x amount of dollars which nearly half of the venues we looked at did.

While it’s a big jump, I agree with julies1949, I would have clarified that in writing before signing the contract. Our venue coordinator wrote up a quote and included everything we would have to pay for before we signed the contract. No surprises.

You should call them and find out why such a big difference in price.

@JenniferMm:  we didn’t choose the menu but we did get in writing what the surcharge per guest would be from their standard menu prices .

Most people sign the contract first then choose the menu. There is going to be a difference in price depending if you pick a plated meal, buffet, or stations, plus if you two entrees or one, so I don’t see how she would nail down the price without knowing what her food was going to be when she booked the venue.

I think its fine for venues to have minimums they must meet as long as they are upfront with it. I also know some of the places where they require this, if you have a smaller quest list, you can meet the price minimums by upgrading your options, which I think is fair for everyone, the bride and groom get some cool perks and the venue doesn’t lose money for doing a smaller wedding.
