you can use acrylic paint, or you could sand it off with very fine sandpaper (wet and dry) and then use car spray undercoat (it does come in white) and then use your craft paint on top of that when it has dried.

For our names, I used a paint pen that worked great (I printed out our names, cut them out, taped it to the mailbox, and then traced around it, then filled in with the pen).  For the handprint, I still need to do that but we’re going acrylic, maybe mixed with ceiling/wall paint though because that’s the white I’ve got access to.

@kay01:  BRILLIANT IDEA with the names! i was wondering how i could get those done without messing it up a million times trying to write them by hand!

You can also use enamel paint . It is for metal. Oneshot is the brand I use for painting on metal.  It’s also what sign painters and pinstripers use. Once it is on and dry you can spray it with a clear coat

@mainejen:  this. Enamel is thebest Imo, second would be a light sanding before you paint.
