I live in Canada, Fiance is 8 hours away in USA. We are having a small ceremony once I arrive there with a mid am brunch. I have no immediate family left living and I know it would be difficult for a lot of extended family and even alot of close friends to make the trek for the wedding… We will also only have a couple months notice..Going to guess a jan wedding..
I would like to pre-celebrate here say goodye to friends and family before we (kids and I move) Can i throw an engagement/farewell? pre-wedding party here a month or so before we move? Would it be seen as a gift grab?
Advice? thoughts anyone please

Normally, a going away/engagement party would be thrown for you by someone else.
Do you have a close friend you could ask to host the party for you? You could still be involved and work with her re the details.
I think it would be ok to throw your own party if you connected it with a charity fundraiser so that it was clear that you were not asking for/ nor accepting gifts.

I think a party would be perfect. If you wanted to avoid seeming like it’s a gift grab, you could make it Christmas themed so it counts as a Christmas party too.

What about a brunch? or a tree trimming party? Each guest could bring a Christmas ornament that relected their friendship with you.
