I’m in a bit of a bind. We have interviewed/consulted over 15 photographers and we are now down to the final three and I can’t decide which way to go.I’m African American and my fiancee is Irish, so my big concern is can this person take photos of me and him together without making me look washed out or non-existant. I’d love any feedback folks have on the following options.
1) M2 Photography- we would be working with their associates not the two principals http://m2-photography.net/
2) Cliff Mautner- he’s the most seasoned photographer and the most expensive- http://www.cmphotography.com/
3) With Love and Embers – we’d be working with the principals –http://www.withloveandembers.com/journal/
I want to make a deicision soon, because folks are booking up like crazy. HELP!

I voted #2. If he is too expensive for you, then I would say #1 after him. #3 would not be a consideration. Their pics were very generic looking to me. #2 blows everyone out of the water (in my opinion). I didn’t read your post initially. I went straight to the links of photographers and looked at them first. There was an image that struck me as really beautiful and a stand out. I think they were bride and bride. It looked as though they were both in wedding dresses and there was a genuine look of love between them. One was black and one was white. Both of them were equally showcased in the pic. Based on your concern of being washed out because of the differences in your skin tones, I would say take a look at that pic. It belongs to photographer #2. Best of luck!

I just looked further into the pics and see that they are, indeed, bride and bride. All of the pics of them together show them both very clearly and they are all lovely.

I vote for #2 as well! I also have the same
issue with my fiancé and I. I’m black and he’s Irish

Have you looked at these photographers? http://www.kgmexpressions.com/
They shot our wedding. DH and I are both photographers and wanted technical excellence – and chose Kim and Ray in large part for their understanding of exposure theory. And they are great fun to work with – we had our online album on over 700 images about ten days after our wedding.

If not a crazy amount more, I’d go #2. The one Astra posted would be my second choice.

Cliff is shooting my wedding. You will be in fantastic hands with him! Worth every penny!

Speaking as a wedding photographer, Cliff Mautner is a phenominal photographer and highly talented. If you can afford him I say go for it.

As a wedding photographer myself, I would pick #2 no doubt!!

Thank you guys so much for your feedback, I really agonized over this choice. The truth is after our first meeting with Cliff, I was sold on his work, but I didn’t know how to make it work within our budget without drastically cutting something else. After talking it over with the Fiance, we decided that pictures are more important so we moved around a few allocations and confirmed Cliff for our wedding! I can’t wait!
