My Fiance proposed May 27th, 2011. We are still in college but will graduate in the next two years.
We can’t decide if we would like an august 2012 wedding or if we should wait until june of 2013.
I feel like we have waited too long to pick a date and to inform our family and friends for the august 2012 wedding, but I would love to get married in 2012.
One of the main reasons why June 2013 would be best is that we live in Dallas and want our wedding in Galveston which is a 5 hour drive away. I feel like 7 months is too short of time for guests to make arrangements.
My Fiance wants to wait to get married in 2013. I’m torn between the two years but I believe the summer of 2013 will be the best option.
What should I do?

August 2012 doesn’t give you much time to plan. Because summer is peak season, most venues & merchants(depending on where you live) may already be booked. You may end up having to settle for 2nd or 3rd choices.
I would be careful about doing a june wedding. Depending on when your semester finishes it’s a recipe for procrastination. One of the biggest mistakes I’ve made in planning my wedding is putting off several important orders until after my finals (december 16th). I ended up screwed by the holiday season & things are a lot more stressful now.
If I were you I’d do August 2013. It will give you the most flexibility & you won’t have to balance school & wedding stuff as much.

Even though I’m sure you would like to get married sooner than later, I would say go for the 2013 date only becuase you won’t have to rush to get stuff booked. I got engaged February 2011 and the reception site that I wanted only had 1 weekend open for Fall 2012 (I live in Chicago, so things tend to book quickly in the city). It might be worth the wait so that you don’t get stressed out. Best of luck to you!

You can totally plan a wedding by August, I have several friends who planned their summer weddings in 6 months and they were all perfectly lovely. Yes, some vendors may already be booked, so try not to get your heart set on a certain one until you know their availability, but there will definitely still be vendors who are open on that day. 7 months is way more than enough time to make travel arrangements, a five hour drive is really not that bad. And if it were me I wouldn’t wait to wait nearly a whole year more to get married.

Thanks for the advice! As much as I don’t want to wait, I think 2013 would be the best option!

I would say one of the biggest factors to consider is budget. Could you afford the wedding you want by August? And as other said, you would need to get looking at venues, photographers, florists, etc asap as its peak season and so much will already be booked up. waiting a bit longer will give you a lot more options in terms of vendors.
