Not in the military, nor marrying into it, but I think the dog tags are a great idea.

@future_mrs_taylor:  I have vintage stamps from all of the armed forces (I was in the Army and reserves and his dad was a marine and the rest of my family was in all of them).

I think that is the only ‘salute’ (lol) that we are doing. I am not putting on my uniform for pics bcause they are anything but flattering to women.

My Fiance is USN we are getting married by a captian, and in place of boutiniers the groomsmen, groom, and dads will be wearing an anchor.

Fiance was a Navy Corpsman, and I’m going to have his name tag sewn into my dress, it should make for some cute getting ready pictures. Other than that I don’t think we’re doing anything else. Fiance has been out for a few years, and while we did invite some of his old Marines buddies he doesn’t feel very connected to the military any more.

Is you cake topping one of the ones you get custom made to look like you? If so I think the ASUs would be adorable.

I think a hint of military is nice, not over the top and just things that are traditional. My Fi is getting married in uniform we are having a guard of honour and possibly a fly past, however he said he isn’t marrying the military and at one point he wasn’t even going to be in uniform, now he is changing after the ceremony into a suit for the reception so all of his colleagues have to bring two lots of clothes so they can change too. We don’t want the focus on his work because it doesn’t define us as a couple but keeping to tradition and small elements are very meaningful. We are now maybe going to have a cake topper of Fiance in uninform made to look like him and me. Fiance didn’t want our wedding turning into an officers mess party so that’s why the reception will be all in suits.

I think the cake toppers are a great idea. Not in love with the dog tag favors though. Those seem to be more for yourselves than for your guests, as most folks won’t have much use for dog tags in general, let alone dog tags with someone else’s wedding date on them. Perhaps have some nice sterling silver dog tags made up for you and your soon-to-be husband, but select a favor more likely to actually go home with the guests.

@future_mrs_taylor:  Instead of table numbers we have the names of our favorite bases posted on each table

@future_mrs_taylor:  my garter also has his branch symbol on it ( as a surprise to him). Other than that we aren’t incorporating military
