Best of luck!
Best of luck!
I’ll be sure to update after I’ve discussed options in more depth with a good goldsmiths.
They told me that too, the ring my fiance bought for me was huge on me, and they told me they would have to remake it to fit me. Turns out that wasn’t the case and it was resized within a week, I would just get another opinion.
I don’t think anyone has mentioned it yet but, could you split the difference? Meaning, have them resize the ring as small as possible and then add in a sizer in the form of balls or a metal band across the bottom? In case that was not clear, assuming you need to go from a 9 to a 4 (numbers I made up). Can the 9 be sized down to a 7 safely and then you could add in the insert that is right for you to bring the 7 down to a 4? I guess this may not be ideal but it would allow you to have your original ring.
Hi I have a very small finger and my ring was purchased second hand, Fiance just assumed it could be resized just like you did.
Of course when he went and wanted it sized down 8 sizes they all said no, the diamonds would fall out etc.
I did not give up and went to a very small manufacturing jeweller who could do it, he said that any ring can be resized, just sometimed the stones have to be removed and set back in, most jewellers wont do it because they are lazy.
So if mine could be sized down, and it had diamonds channel set down the band so would have been more inflexible then your ring, then so can yours, just dont give up and go to smaller jewellers and talk to the jeweller not the shop girl until you find one who will do it for you.
Oh and the resize cost me $50, but I live in NZ, other wise I would recommend the jeweller I went to.
To add more sentimental value to the materials, what about having it remade into a wedding band for your fiancé? Just grasping at straws here!
could you wear it as a thumb ring?
I don’t know if this is possible but could they cut the top section of the ring from the band, and attach it to a gold band that does fit your finger? So when it was finished it would look something like the link below but with a cool swirl pattern rather then a flower. That way you would keep the detail and stones from the original ring, but have something that fits your finger. http://www.evesaddiction.com/detail_RG10112__179__Vintage_Style_Sterling_Silver_Filigree_Flower_Ring.html
Just wanted to update everyone who was kind enough to respond and let you know that I now have an engagement ring that fits! I finally found a great workshop where I could speak to a jeweller directly. They agreed to put in the extra effort to try and resize (apparently normal techniques won’t work and most jewellers are too lazy to come up with creative solutions) although they warned me that it would be a very oval ring afterwards. They also reset the stones to make sure everything was spot on.
So, I know have a ring with a very strange oval shape to it, but you can’t tell when it’s on and I can now wear it again. Very happy indeed!
So happy for you!
Great news! I am very happy for you!
Edited because I read the thread 😛 Yay I’m so pleased. It’s a beautiful ring 🙂
