My favorite color is a pale pink by Essie called “Ballet Slippers”.  It’s subtle, feminine and gorgeous!

I always think a natural looking nail is prettiest.  I think it’s just classic and goes with everything.  With that said, a fun pop of color can be nice too.  I don’t really think you can go wrong.

It depends on your skintone and the stone in your ring. I wore a lot of jewel tones because the dark colors draw more attention to your hands. If you have non-colorless stone (sapphire, emerald, ruby, topaz ect.) I would wear a color that complements it or a neutral.

@LittleMsPumpernickel:  I don’t use Seche Vite base coat (I use OPI for that), but I DO use Seche Vite top coat, and honestly, I have found NOTHING, EVER like it! I LOVE that stuff.

If you have a steady hand, you can give yourself a beautiful, at-home French mani. I already mentioned my base and top coats of choice.  For the color, I use either Essie’s “Mademoiselle” (two coats of this one) OR OPI’s “Hopelessly in Love” (only ONE coat of this, applied in just the right amount).  Then I use a completely opaque, really white nail color  (Orly and OPI are two that I’ve used) to paint the white “tips” and finish with the Seche Vite Top Coat.

@LittleMsPumpernickel:  I think the OPI base is less expensive than the Seche.

Here is an example of how the “Hopelessly in Love” looks as a French mani on all-natural nails with polish only.  (I would love to take credit for the results of a steady hand in this pic, but I had my manicurist do my nails the day before my wedding, so the lines are hers in this photo.  The process is exactly as I described above, since she is the one who taught me how to achieve this look.)

I also love Essie Ballet slippers, and I use an Essie top coat – Good to go. That’s what the picture is of, with the Essie top coat set in stones on the ring finger!

I’ve used the No chips ahead top coat of theirs also and it took way too long to set and would get messed up every time. OPI steady as she rose is a favorite color with my ring, and I also like Neo Whimsical which is Essie.

@LittleMsPumpernickel:  Yes, totally natural nails. I’ve never had the guts to try acrylic/tips, silk wraps, or gel, because of the high cost/maintenance/time factors as well as the damage I’ve heard they can cause to your natural nails.  By the way, your nails don’t have to be very long to do this.

You can definitely “cheat” by applying the white color lower on your nail than it truly is on your bare nail. I do this all of the time. It really gives the illusion of your nails being longer than they are.

Here is another pic — this one shows the Essie “Madamoiselle,” and I did this one myself. (Please ignore the one, super-crooked nail in the middle, LOL!) You can see, especially with my thumb nail, how I painted the white farther down onto the nail than it would normally look without a French mani.

P.S. Thanks so much for your compliment on my ring! 🙂
