We haven’t decided if we are having our ceremony as part of the wedding reception, or if we’re going to go to city hall the day before. I’m about to order the save the dates – what should i call it? Options are: “Wedding Reception” or “Wedding Celebration”. Or do you have another idea?

I think you should figure out whether or not you’ll be going to city hall the day before or not, before you start sending save the dates. People will want to know if they are attending a marriage ceremony or just a marriage celebration. can I ask, why are you considering city hall (when you already have a reception planned – and could do the ceremony there?)

How formal are your save-the-dates? Could you just put something like:
“Come celebrate with us on [Date, Time] in [Place]”

FI has always wanted to go to city hall and I agreed, but now that we have this nice garden reserved for the party, I’m thinking why don’t we just have a friend marry us there (so I don’t have to get dressed up twice!) It’s hard to get FI to siit and talk about planning and details though, so I can’t get him to decide with me for sure in a timely fashion. But I really need to get the darn save the dates out because it’s only 4 months away now!!
I would LOVE to decide beforehand, but it’s just hard to get FI to think through details. 🙁

but a save the date usually just says names, date, SAVE THE DATE and the city,state

I would hold off on ordering your STD’s until you’be got this sorted. THey are an optional step to begin with.
