I am planning my first bridal shower, and I need ideas. What were your favorite details from your shower? What advice do you have for me? The wedding doesn’t have a theme or a color scheme, so I am starting from total scratch here. Oh, and also, I am of course combing the ‘bee for ideas, but if you have favorite links from this site or others, please share with me!
For example, one thing I really liked from my shower is that my Mother-In-Law did a “wishing well,” where she had everyone bring a small gift and put it in a huge (laundry basket) … so we got all sorts of cool random little things like a citrus peeler or a package of cute candles.
Any ideas like that, or others?!

I made recipe cards (3 per person) and had them sent out with the invitations. Guests brought them back filled out with their favorite recipes. While I opened gifts, I said what the recipes were for. It was fun 🙂
We didn’t do any games, and nothing embarrassing. All the gifts were kitchen & bath supplies (which went with the recipe theme).

I had the recipe cards too, and loved it! Thanks for the reminder. Good idea.

What I really really really loved about my shower was that my sister had my “chair of honour” from my grandmother’s house. My grandmother passed away last summer, and I had an armchair from her place stored at my sister’s house until we had room (ie got rid of my wedding stuff!) at our place. When I walked in and saw it surrounded by balloons I nearly started bawling my eyes out. I loved having that little but very personal and meaningful touch, it really felt like my grandmother was there with us 🙂
I also loved that my sister really went out of her way to coordinate everything all matchy matchy for me since that’s REALLY not her style. For instance, she made sugar cookies that PERFECTLY matched the invitations. I can’t even imagine how long it took her! The amount of time and effort she put into stuff like that was just amazing.
The games were fun (especially toilet paper bride) but I realize they’re not for everyone 😉 Oooh and one thing EVERYONE loved that’s kind of funny but cute, is that she had one of those pitcher’s with the spout on them filled with lemonade and sliced lemons in it. I think barely anyone had a glass of wine or even water because they all loved how the lemonade looked! LOL!
She did a baking theme for me so we played a game where we passed around spice containers and we had to guess what each was (similar to the baby food game at baby shower’s if you’ve ever played that). That was really fun and everyone had some good laughs! She also had her BIL (a chef) come in and do a demonstration making a few different desserts for us which was awesome.
At the end of the day, I just loved having my favourite girls all in one room. It was a terrific afternoon, my only regret is that it went by so fast!!!
