I found several dresses under $1000 at Mariposa and Jinny’s in Orange County, if you’re willing to drive down there.

I’d also look at BCBG – they have a lot of beautiful white dresses that are well under $1000.  For that matter, also try any of the big department stores…Nordstrom, Saks, Bloomingdale’s.

There are also several shops that you can rent dresses from.

Try the downtown shopping district. Also, look into special occasion/party/prom dresses from local dept stores or bridesmaid dresses as those are much cheaper than wedding dresses.

Try looking up a couple less expensive brands and seeing what stores carry them.  I bought a Casablanca dress and they can be as low as $700 sometimes.

If you know what you’re looking for (style, particular designer, etc.) & you don’t mind a mimic, check out Korea Town.  They have fantastic dressmakers who are willing to make you a designer inspired gown for MUCH less.  I checked them out & nearly went with one when I found my dream dress at La Soie in Torrance for $800.  I also second Mariposa in OC; people there have good info & you get great service if you go on an off day or time.

That place called the Glamour closet in LA only sells sample designer gowns. You lucky people who live in LA have cool places like that. Michigan… not so much.

I asked this question a lot and most of the answers I got always ended up being right around the $1000 mark, which for me was still to high. Can you be more specific to your price range. If you’re new to this the Hive can be a fountain of information but it’s better to be as specific as possible with your question. A previous poster suggested looking up brands that are less expensive, then hunting for stores that sell those dresses. That’s what I ended up doing and had success with. I was VERY hesitant but I love my dress. I ordered a Venus Bridal dress from Rose Petals bridal in Burbank (ask for Leslie she’s really most helpful!) They also have several Venus bridesmaids dresses that can be ordered in white. I considered one that was just under $200. Their lead time on ordering though is pretty tight, I ordered mine about 3 weeks ago and I’m getting it in July so I’d call ASAP! The other place to try that had some good choices was 2000 Dreams Bridal which is in Temple City, it’s only abut 10 minutes past Pasadena. They had a TON of stuff under $400 and pretty much included a fingertip veil with everything. The only bad part about their store is they rip out the labels so you have to either know how to read their item numbers or just commit to buying from them. I went on my own and they were super helpful (a little bit pushy) but VERY helpful. Hope that helps good luck.

Oh and for the price range around $900-$1200 Pebbles in Woodland Hills was really great as well, AWESOME selection of Maggie Sottero dresses. Arrive RIGHT when they open though it gets really packed in there!

ooh, yes, I second the referral for Pebbles Bridal.  If you don’t need the whole “Bridal Salon” experience I think this place is great.  And if you go on a weekday you’ll have the place to yourself too.
