I need to make a decision in the next 2 hours and am having a hard time!
My sister lives in Texas and is hosting Thanksgiving for our father and her mixer broke. She is an adjunct professor and does not have a ton of money. I told her to go on Amazon and pick one and I would send it to her as an early xmas present…but I REALLY want to gift her a kitchenaid mixer! Should I do it? or is it too extravagent?

Did she say she wanted a replacement mixer for Christmas? Unless your sister wants a mixer for Christmas, I wouldn’t get one. I might send a gift card and, if she chooses to buy a mixer with that, then that’s her decision. If my mixer broke and my sister sent me one and said Merry Christmas, I’d be ticked off because a mixer is not my idea of a Christmas gift. And, truth be told, if my mixer broke, I doubt I’d replace it anyway because I seldom use it!
I am a firm believer that you don’t give people kitchen appliances for Christmas unless they mention wanting it for Christmas!!!

If she wants a new mixer, and you can afford it without hurting your own finances, a kitchenaid is the way to go!! I’m an avid baker, and my Fiance knew I’d been lusting after one for years. So two years ago he got me one as my combined birthday/holiday gift. BEST PRESENT EVER. I use it at least once a week.

@cc226: I would die without my KitchenAid mixer! If she really needs a new one and would get good use out of it, go for it!

@BanditGirl: She needs one for thanksgiving…and it would only be one part of her christmas present (and we do exchange appliances in our family).

Kitchenaid all the way!! That thing is the best. With all the attachments that come with it it’s more than a mixer. It’s amazinggg…..

Since I think your question really is between getting her kitchen aid or getting her the one she picks out I’d say go with the Kitchen Aid. Its definitely possible that she’s just going to pick out one that isn’t too expensive so she doesn’t burden you. I’d say if its in your budget go ahead and get her the Kitchen Aid one, I’m sure she’ll appreciate it in the long run!

I think that would be an awesome gift. If she knows that you’re buying it for her, she’ll probably pick a cheaper one. If you have the money for it, I think that would be very nice of you. It does make more sense to get a nice mixer so it will last longer.
