Tell your sister to SUCK IT and wear what you pick.

It’s one thing to be a bridezilla and having control issues about everything but it seems as if your sister is the one who is a MAIDzilla and wants say over you.

It’s your day not hers, hold your ground!

I agree as bride you gret to pick their dresses. As long as it is something they can afford it should be up to you.

There is nothing at all zilla-like in your reaction. Good for you for having a backbone (backbone is NOT a negative) and telling them not to get the dress. It’s your wedding. You’ll wear whatever they pick out when it’s their turn.

@MrsTimmy:  Ugh, good insight. I’m sure there’s some of that going on, and/or looking at this as her chance to pick what she wants at a big wedding. But eloping was her choice; yours was to have a bridal party. I hope you can help her see that she needs to respect that.

Have you ever watched an episode of TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids” – because this happens quite often!  The bride wants to please her sister(s) and friends so much she just agrees with everything even when she’s not happy…

It’s one thing if the bride demands everyone where a $650 dress when no one can afford it.  It’s totally different when a bridesmaid completely takes over and basically threatens not to be in the wedding unless they get to pick their own dress.  That’s being inconsiderate and selfish.  This is your day, if you want hot pink silk dresses, your sister and closest friends in the world should smile and wear them!

As far as what to do, the dresses from modcloth.com might fight your 60’s-style wedding.  And the prices are really great.  Good luck!!!

@MrsTimmy:  I think both of those are great with your dress, and particularly love the cranberry one. If you’re not sure, you might also look at bridesmaids dresses from Lula Kate. We’re going for much the same aesthetic you are (that mid-century, elegant-retro look), but since our wedding is a cocktail party, I got a Lula Kate bridesmaid’s dress in ivory. I thought that most of her dresses for bridesmaids were along those lines, and there are lots of choices for fabrics and colors, too.

@MrsTimmy:  Both dresses are gorgeous. Your BMs are lucky to have you. I don’t see any reason why the cranberry wouldn’t work with your dress??
