sooo when I first started looking at dresses I wanted my bridesmaids to wear a pencil skirt, a nice blouse and some cute shoes/boots. Everyone (my FH, and bridesmaids) told me it wouldn’t look fancy enough and they feared they would just blend in with the guests. I took that into consideration and decided to look for regular dresses. Now that I am looking into normal dresses I find myself going back to the pencil skirt idea. What do you think? will they blend in with the guests? or is there a way that I can make sure that they won’t?? Our wedding is in December in Michigan so I would like to find something that is somewhat warm

KateriPetrie: I think it’s a great idea. I think FH and bridesmaids are picturing an individual BM. When you see them in a group, it’s a cute look and one they WILL be able to wear again.

Thanks! I just like the idea that everyone would be comfortable and be able to wear it again 🙂

I think it depends. If it is the “chose your own pencil skirt/shirt/shoes” they will probably blend in. If it is something that you pick out and they all wear the same, then people will realize what is going on.

I think it’s a great idea – especially if it’s not a super formal affair. You can have lots of fun accessorizing. They’ll stand out because they’ll be gorgeous…absolutely go with your gut 🙂

What makes bridesmaids stand out is the fact they all look uniform, whether it be that they all wear the same dress, or the same colour and different dresses etc. it’s the whole package or the hair, make up, shoes, flowers and accessories that makes them stand out from guests.
I think the idea sounds absolutly adorable and it will look amazing! With skirts and blouses being so trendy right now there are tons of lovely options too. You’re bridesmaids will be amazing.

Depends on how casual or formal your wedding is and if they’re all wearing matching skirtd and/or sweaters or mismatched. That’d have been too casual for any weddings I’ve been to so far, but, as a bridesmaid, I’d have preferred that over everything except being able to completely pick and wear my own dress (when not limited to specific bridesmaid designer or bridesmaid brand). as your bridesmaid, I’d prefer to be able to pick any dress I want in a certain color/length and then buy and wear the same sweater or shawl/wrap as other girls.

I do think it could make it look more casual. Have you tried to find a dress that has a similar shape to a pencil skirt?

Ugh, I love the skirts in the 3rd photo. I think to make it look great you’d have to make sure they were all in the same skirt, which can be difficult due to body shapes (I know I look like craaaaap in pencil skirts, but I rock an A-line/circle skirt like no one’s biz), and in an offbeat color/fabric/pattern, or I think you run the risk of them looking like they’re coming from work (like i wouldn’t do a black or khaki twill if you get my drift).

I personally don’t like the look. It also depends on your dress (the example pictures you have the bride is in a very casual dress as well). Plus pear shaped girls (like me) look pretty horrible in pencil skirts.

Do it! I think it’s a fun idea, and totally rewearable. Your girls are going to be carrying bouquets/walk down the aisle during the ceremony so they’ll stand out/get honored then. If they blend in on the dance floor, who cares?
