- Wedding: July 2013
We have been working on finalizing our ceremony service for our wedding this July. It is going to be held outdoors in a beautiful old English garden. It can only be 30 minutes long. We are both Christian, but we’re looking to make our ceremony more personalized. We have traditional elements mixed with less-traditional elements, if that makes sense. For example, we are going to say our own vows, but we are going to finish them with traditional Christian vows. My sister is singing “Unforgettable” instead of a traditional hymn.
We’re lucky because I’ve known our pastor for a long time and he is very flexible and wants our wedding to be about us– rather than focusing on tradition. We have been reviewing a list of “popular” bible verses given to us by our Pastor, but to be honest none of them fit us. I really don’t want anyone to take offense to this post because I am so very respectful of the religious views of others. But these verses are not for us. A lot of them talk about the woman submitting to the man, or the man being the head of the household… and it’s not for us. The only one that is appropriate is your classic “Love is patient, Love is kind”. Which is fine, but I also think it’s been over done. I’m happy to settle for it if I can’t find anything else.
So here is my request– I’m looking for a reading for our ceremony. Something that has to do with companionship and love. It can be religious or non-religious, from the bible or an exerpt from a book/ poem. We’re open to whatever you can think of!
THANK YOU!
