Make ’em anyway, and hope for the best. I imagine it’ll be ok. 🙂

You’ll be fine. Do a thinner slice so that they cook faster and crank up your broiler at the end to get a nice crisp on the top. Godspeed!

My Mom taught me lazy man’s scalloped potatoes.

Place a layer of sliced potatoes in a baking dish.

Dot with butter, sprinkle with flour, sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Repeat these layers till the dish is filled.

Pour milk over everything to just the top layer.

Bake until done. My kids like shredded cheese added to the top about half way through baking.

I’ve never let them sit overnight! If they’re sliced thin already, great. If not, slice them a little thinner if they’re not too covered in the sauce, etc. These are the two recipes I use, and they’ve never failed me! I’m sure you can adopt bits and pieces of them to remedy yours if you need to.

@peachacid:  Plus, they’re potatoes. With all the cheese/cream/other goodness on top, they’ll be fine even if you don’t follow the recipe to a T 🙂 Update us on how they turn out!

Are scalloped potatoes another name for dauphinoise? They’re easier to portion if you leave them overnight after baking but just as tasty immediately after being cooked (just not as pretty).

I think they’ll be fine, and at the end of the day if they get f-ed up, it’s just potatoes!
