FI recently finished a very grueling program and has graduated with a job (ya!). SO I wanted to bake him a congrats cake and host an open house for our families who have supported us to come by and mingle and for us to say thank you. We have a 850 sq.ft. condo with a 4 (maybe 6) person dining set but we have an open kitchen so I can lay food out.
There will be about 12 people coming from our families.
I can’t do sit down as I don’t have enough dinner chairs so I was going to do more finger foods.
Any ideas or suggestions please!

My roommates and I had a cocktail style Christmas party at our place. We only have a dining table that seats 6 so we couldnt’ host a sit down meal.
We pushed the dining table against the wall and used it as a buffet table to set the food on. I’d suggest you do this to make more room for people to mingle. Then, we took the dining chairs and a few other chairs we had and scattered them in the living room so we’d have places for people to sit. We also have a small patio so we had a couple of outdoor chairs out there.
We made a few easy apps and bought some heat and eat ones from Trader Joes (really good, btw). Here’s what we made in case it gives you some ideas: chicken satay, tortilla espanola (a potato frittata), pear and gogonzola tarts (just thinly sliced pears and gorgonzola cheese baked on puff pastry), and an assortment of cookies (you can make the dough beforehand and bake the day of). At trader joes, I know we got arincini balls but I can’t remember what else. We also bought some beer, wine and vodka but people brought alcohol too. It was a lot of fun!

I always make finger foods for our parties, here are some easy go-tos:
– crostinis (can be simple like bruchetta, or add more to it like turkey and cranberry sauce)
– goat cheese grapes (these are SO good, take grapes and roll them around in goat cheese, I then add bits of bacon that stick to the cheese, but have seen nuts too.) And to alow them to stand up use two grapes on a toothpick, with one grape coated and the second above it to balance out the weight.
– mini quiches, or any type of mini tartlet (I usually do an onion and beef one)
– some type of fruit finger, I usually do watermelon squares with mint and feta.
