michellelynn9175 :  Having watched other people struggle when trying to translate their ideas to David Klass – I think you need to figure out exactly which ‘look’ you want.  I have heard many people say that same thing on PS.  He will create you a beautiful ring but he is not a designer like Caysie for example.  Each one is very pretty but they are all different types of rings/looks.  I haven’t seen too many examples of the floral baskets as 3 stones.  I am sure it is possible like the first example but I don’t really remember you saying you wanted a floral inspired ring previously….am I wrong?

Like everyone else said, 8 prongs are too much but with some of the floral baskets, they kind of envelope the stone and don’t really look like traditional prongs (like the OEC I had made).  It is very hard to do 6 prongs on smaller side stones or they will also meet in the middle and take away from the sparkle you are trying to create. It might be possible to create the floral baskets on all 3 stones, though I have not seen it before.  They sort of hold the stone in place without covering the stone and I think that could be a really interesting look.

michellelynn9175 :  I’m so excited you got your CADs! This ring is going t be amazing! I definitely agree on the 6 prongs not 8, the 8 are too much. And not seeing the prongs from top view. I also like the idea of maybe making the leaf be a prong on the side stones. I’m sure DK can do that if you ask. He’s always so kind and never minds tweaking CADs.. One of the things I love about him as a jeweler. He never acts like you’re being annoying, no matter how small a change or how many. I didn’t it before with rings.

I cant wait to see the next set of CADs! Keep us posted please.

michellelynn9175 :  if you have a picture in your head, can you draw it out and send it to him?  That’s what I did for part of my design, because I couldn’t find a photo of a similar ring.  It doesn’t have to be perfect – mine was super rough but it conveyed what I wanted just fine.

michellelynn9175 :  Hey lady, it’s me! Beautiful concept you have going. I think I sort of understand what you want. Definitely tell David to do a 6-prong. And for what you see that is a lot of “prong” and the bulge, it comes from David incorporating both the prongs and leaves as separate entities. So why  not ask him to do the leaf  basket holding the main stone without any overlapping leaves (right now there’s an overlap making it look like a “cup”). And for the sidestones, have the leaves in those smaller baskets thin  out and taper into a prong holding the stone, if that makes sense? If you think there will be too much metal for the sidestones, alternate between a leaf thinning out into a prong and a thin metal creeping up next to the leaf (like a vine) and thinning into a prong to minimise the amount of leaves on the entire ring. It could make it look less floral that way too. I could draw it out if you need a visual, just let me know.

So obviously I’m no artist but this is what I came up with on short notice LOL. This is what I have in mind when you talk about your ring. The dots are just to show you where the prongs would go (get the thin single-claw prongs). And the “vines” coming out from the main leaf on the sidestones obviously wouldn’t be so thick – it’s just to show you clearly from a drawing where the vines would creep up from and taper into a prong. For the main stone, you could easily go three thinner leaves on each side tapering up into a prong without having the overlap. Again, they wouldn’t be so bulky, but I had to size up so you can see from the drawing what I was talking about. Let me know what you think and if I can help further LOL.

michellelynn9175 :  Your inspiration pictures are all beautiful. I know what you can do if you want a bit of an overlap detail – the MoCo ring gave me an idea. You see David’s design that you showed me with the milgrain? Get him to do two thin petals per side and have vines (just strands of metal that will taper into prongs) weave between the petals. So you have six prongs total for the main stone that way – two or four from the tip of the leaves and the rest from your vine overlap. For the smaller stones, you can  have one leaf on each side of the stone and get the overlap going again with the vine. That would probably be your happy medium. ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, your 1.5ct stone is making me have major regret at not going bigger. Like serious serious regret!

I shall attach my older CAD that David sent so you can have a look at the leaves I’m talking about! (How thin they could be).
