I know that with a little expertise, something like that can be made in Photoshop or perhaps Illustrator by playing with contrast and color features, but they are fairly complex (and expensive!) programs to learn. Do you have any friends who use Photoshop at all? Otherwise, I’m sure you could easily find an artist on Etsy to comission to do this; for someone who has the skills and knowledge, it wouldn’t be a very difficult project.

I’d definitely say photoshop. If you’re willing to spend some time experimenting with different techniques, I’d say go for it! Photoshop has a little bit of a learning curve, but there are so many tutorials online to tell you how to do almost anything you would want.

I would recommend looking at some lineart tutorials.

Those 2 look pretty good.

It will take time and patience, LOTS of patience. lol. Totally go for it though.

Ink it, scan it, and then live paint/trace it (just takes 1 click!) in Illustrator. 🙂

If you have Photoshop, there are a lot of tree brushes you can download that would do something similar (many of them are free, and would only take one click to apply!).
