I’m almost 5’11” and will be wearing 3″ heels with my dress.  I ordered it in regular length and it’s perfect!

umm i think they ripped you off.. 5ft 7 brides usually dont need xtra length from what i’ve heard. i’m 5ft 11 and i am hoping to get away with regular length. alot of brides actually pay to get it hemmed because its too long.

There is usually petite, regular, and tall – Aria has a great explanation – http://www.ariadress.com/SizeAndMeasurement.htm  Basically, there is no difference for your ordering 5’9″ v 5’7″ (aka regular) – you will just have to hem it more. I’m not sure what you are asking about length exactly – dresses are not custom made for your exact height so I imagine you would have to hem the dress regardless.

I ordered my dress to be the exact length for me and the shoes I already had, 4 inches.  Came in and it was fine…but she measured me with shoes.

I’m 5’5″ and actually ordered my dress to be shorter than usual (I think 4″ or 5″).  The length is just right, but I’m not wearly ridiculously high heels either.   I doubt you need the extra length, but it it puts your mind at ease, go for it.

Also, have your dress hemmed shorter than you think it should be. I had mine an inch or so off the floor or whereever the seemstress thought was good. It worked fine for walking up the aisle, but I stepped on it the rest of the night while dancing and trying to actually walk from place to place.

@rachelss: Actually, some designers DO customize for height. It’s called a hollow-to-hem measurement. From what I understand, it does cost quite a bit more to do it this way.

I measure my dress at 40″ from natural waist to floor, but I could be off by an inch since I left it on the hanger and was guess where the waist was. I am 5’3″ and wore 4″ heels and the dress should have been an inch shorter. However, your measurements will depend on your proportions – despite being short I cannot wear petite sizes in most pants because the inseam is too short. If you are worried I’d go back to the store and remeasure and talk to the sales person. My husband didn’t do this and had to swap out his tux at the last minute – it’s a good thing he hadn’t bought it.
