I have a friend that I used to be quite close with, but he moved away a couple of years ago, so obviously I see and speak to him less now. recently he got married in a small family only cerimony overseas to a woman he has been dating on and off for about 2 years. I have never met her but I want to send a gift, which is where I need help.
ive been thinking of a few things
1) $100 folded like a heart
2) gift card to a very good nation-wide clothes & home store
3) gift cert to a book store (they are both intellectuals)
but I’m having trouble deciding what to get them as they will likely be moving (back to where I am – yay) soon so maybe they don’t want to buy house things yet. Also I’m getting married this fall and I feel like if I give them money or a gift card, they’ll likely jut give me similar back, which defeats the purpose to me.
another option could be to get them a gift card to a cool restaurant or similar.
Lastly, they currently live pretty far away, so I can’t send any large or heavy gifts as it would cost a fortune to mail (But maybe I could order something from where they live)
what should I get them?
Ps – they are mid-late 30s but not really established (he just finished his masters etc)

Honestly, I would send a Visa giftcard or a check. It’s easy to ship, and they can use the money/credit for whatever purposes they need to. Though it’s not a crafty gift, it’s still a nice gesture. whatever you decide, I’m sure they will be glad to receive it.

Wow – I don’t know what happened with the spacing. I hope it doesn’t look that crazy to you guys!

A friend of mine’s brother gave gift certificates to zagat rated restaurants to his groomsmen in the places they live. I always thought that was the coolest idea

Lol, ok call me old-fashioned…
But I am one who loves a gift that is actually selected for me by the person, vs Cash or a Gift Card
(Those I forget over time… heartfelt gifts I remember)
I like the idea of ordering them something on-line that will be shipped to them…
BUT if they are moving back to you… then you might want to hold off until they arrive (technically it is ok to give a Wedding Present up until a year after the Date)
One of my favourite gifts to give is a classy picture frame. Lets face it we all have nice Photos of our SO… to some extent. Be they casual shots, E Shoots, from the Wedding, or Honeymoon.
Lots of photos, no where to put them (facing this dilemma currently myself). And buying frames can add up… how many Brides put off framing their Wedding Photos because getting organized is expensive ???
Wood, Silver, Crystal are all nice options. And go with pretty much any decor… You can find such frames at most major Department Stores / Jewellery Stores etc.
I am a sucker for Vera Wang in this department when I am looking for the perfect gift…
Hope this helps,
