I have always thought Hampton to be really crowded and touristy.  I think Rye has some nice more private beaches.  There is a place called Petey’s where you can have your Lobster bake.  My sister had her rehersal dinner there when she got married in a church in Rye.  They have a nice covered patio area that you can reserve.

Go for Rye, PLEASE!!!  Hampton Beach is full of guys wearing mesh shirts and neon shorts, screaming children, and tourists tourists tourists!!  Rye Harbor State Park can be rented out for $600/day, though they may have already rented your day.  Their phone number is 603-436-1552; I believe the woman you speak to is Judy.

Rental companies in the area are Marshall Rental and Exeter Rental.  I can give you an idea of how much Marshall Rental costs later today, as I think my proposal has come in the mail.

Oh, and I don’t know how their food tastes, but Warren’s in Kittery Maine has catering for really decent prices.  They have lobster bakes and the like.

you can rent the salisbury state beach pavilion- it has picnic benches and cover. It’s only $100 to rent I believe.

Agree with the others… when it comes to NH’s very short shoreline (20 Miles) Rye is much better than Hampton Beach area.  BUT Rye is also more expensive if you are looking for accommodations in the area.

Also be sure and check out Historic Portsmouth, very interesting and romantic too.

By The Way, you have posted this on the LOGISTICS BOARD here on WBee… you should also do so on the relative LOCAL BOARD (look to the top of this page, and the green bar with the various headings)

Don’t know where you’ve been searching for accommodations… but my first stop for all things travel / vacation related is TripAdvisor… which is the largest on-line Travel Resource in the world.  In addition to having BOARDS (they call them Forums) like these where you ask specific Questions, get help, they also have a huge data-base of Reviews for Hotels, B&Bs, Condos, Cottages, Home Rentals etc (look for the HOLIDAY RENTALS section for any Destination you are interested in).  The listings therein are provided by FlipKey which is also an Expedia Company, and sister website to TripAdvisor. Unlike other Rental Property Listings you may find on-line these have all been registered and vetted to some extent, so you are guaranteed that what you see is what you get.  A HUGE consideration in the Holiday Rental market.  We have used FlipKey before for a vacation, and were quite pleased… everything was exactly as it was presented to us online.

Hope this helps,

Did you check out Rye Harbor State Park?  The information is above.

Would you consider a state park that is away from the water?

You should check out this place: http://www.lobsterhouse.com/catering.html to see how much they charge for a lobster bake.  They definitely have lobster, anyway!

If you want to cook your own lobsters, you know that will be a LOT of work, right?  What were you thinking the event would be like?
