MrsSparkle10:  For face, I recommend ELF’s mineral primer. It comes in four different types – Radiant Glow is my favorite, but it’s shimmery. There is also a clear/plain one if your friend doesn’t like shimmer. Best of all – it’s only $6.

For eyes, I swear by Too Faced Shadow Insurance. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it’s expensive – $18 or so for a little tube, but it makes your makeup stay on F-O-R-E-V-E-R!

MrsSparkle10:  I use MAC prep & prime and find it great! Not too too expensive either. But I don’t wear much eye makeup so I’m not sure what it would be like for that.

I use Loreal magic perfecting base ( a little expensive for Loreal but this stuff is awesome) and Loreal eye primer.  Everything else I use fancier brands of makeup, I just happen to really like those products more than anything else I’ve tried

Revlon’s Photoready primer is pretty good for a cheap one. MAC’s is awesome. And I love Smashbox’s photo primer!

Also, look into a mattefying lotion like Boots Shine Control. It works wonders for my skin and I can get away with wearing no makeup at all when I wear it because it just smoothes out my complexion and I don’t need to worry about looking shiny for the entire day.

I went on a little makeup spree recently with the idea of comparing brands. I bought a cheap Benefit knock-off eye primer (Soap and Glory, I think) and a Benefit one. So far I think I prefer the cheap one!

I did the same with regular primer: George (uber cheap brand) vs. Benefit. So far I can’t say I’ve seen much of a difference, but I want to see what I think now that the weather is getting warmer.

I’ve actually tried using one brand per half of my face (I’m wacko I know).

I’m also shopping for foundations, and can’t see much difference between my spendy Stila one vs. my cheap Mabelline one.

MrsSparkle10:  Smashbox’s eye shadow primer is AMAZING!  I use it everyday and my eye makeup is still perfect when I get home.

I also use either Smashbox or Mary Kay foundation primer and think they do a similar job, I can’t tell the difference.

MrsSparkle10:  you need a different type of primer for the eyes vs face. I prefer Urban Decay primer potion PLUS another base like MAC paint pot and my eye makeup last all day with no issues. Aa far as primer goes I would find out what type of skin my friend has before I buy one. My skin is very dry so what works for me may be different than an oily person or combo. I love MUFE or Smashbox primer,

MrsSparkle10:  My favorite eyeshadow primer is Urban Decay Primer Potion. I have oily eyelids, and they stay crease-free when I use UDPP. For face, I loooove Tarte’s Clean Slate Poreless primer. It keeps my makeup on all day, and helps control shine very well. Just make sure the moisturizer is well-absorbed into the face before applying this primer or it will kind of ball up on itself and just roll off your face when you try to put it on.

mgbser:  I also use the Loreal Magic Perfecting base & love it! I don’t use it daily because I’m always doing my makeup in a hurry, but I def. notice a difference when I do use it- my makeup stays longer, goes on easier, and in general just feels and looks way better.

I like Make Up Forever’s HD primer for my face and Urban Decay’s primer option for my eyes. If you’re near a sephora you can go in and ask for recommendations and some samples so you can try them out first.

MrsSparkle10:  What type of skin does she have?  I have super dry skin (especially in the winter) and I LOVE Smashbox’s PHOTO FINISH HYDRATING FOUNDATION PRIMER.

MrsSparkle10:  I’ve never used setting spray but when I was younger I used to use hairspray on my face to set my makeup.
