stephfleisch :  this would be easier to give an I opinion on if you had a pic of each size on your hand. Everyone’s fingers are different, I think for the style you want it would depend on the length of that part of your finger more so than your ring size, that’s just how big around your finger is. I think if the stone were so long that the point stuck out past your knuckle when you make a fist, even a bit, that you would find it getting caught on things a lot.

My marquise is just over 1.8ct and I would feel uncomfortable wearing it with a halo. (Even as a solitaire it’s a whole lotta rock for me, in a good way but still!) Ring size 4.5 btw.

If there’s someone on Etsy who can get you the 1.4-1.5ct you really want, I’d do it. If you have to choose between 1 and 1.8, I’d do the 1 – marquises face up big and their halos actually take up more room because they have a larger perimeter than rounds.

stephfleisch :  you do have long fingers. I’m sure you’ll be fine with whatever you choose. But if you have lots of time to figure it out you could always try ordering cz rings in the measurements of the diamonds your considering to run trial wearing runs. Or even order loose cz to balance on your hand to check the size if you can’t find a ring in the right style to do it. Are you going to a custom jeweler? If so they really should have at least synthetic stones on hand to show you so you can get a feel for the size.

I’m late to the conversation, so you may have already decided, but… I have a 1 ct. C&C FB marquise solitaire that I adore. Here it is with my original diamond wedding band and with a plain gold band. It’s the right size for me, but if you think there’s ever a chance you’d want bigger, go for the 1.8. As someone else said, shrinkage IS real. I’d love to see pictures of yours when you get it. I’m sure it’ll be beautiful!

I started a comment earlier but it disappeared…here it is again…..The setting is gorgeous.  You may want to measure the 1 carat diamond and add the dimensions of the halo stones.  The total look may be around 4 to 4.5 carats.  Of course, if you go with the 1.8 stone, the total look will be exponentially larger, perhaps as much as 5 to 6 carats.  Have loads of fun putting your ring together and I wish you much happiness.

I’m going off memory, but I think the 1ct is 5x10mm so add 3mm (estimating since I don’t know the specs but i’m guessing 1.5mm halo based on the picture) for the halo and that’s 13mm long – pretty big especially for a size 5. I think the 1ct with the halo will be plenty of finger coverage for you

What are the dimensions of the 1.8? You could plug the dimensions in on diamdb.com then set the screen size so its accurate to your phone, and trace the shape on paper. You can cut it out and place it on a ring to get an idea of how big it’ll be, just keep in mind that it’ll be higher off your hand than the paper (and therefore look bigger)

for what its worth, i love the FB marquise. If size is important to you, I’d second what others said and go with jhollywood designs. Her marquises are beautiful and I know she’ll treat you well! I think the 1.8 would be perfect for you without a halo, but I agree that it might be a bit much with one. 9 times out of 10 I think i would rather have the size I wanted than any of the other C’s

So I know this is an older thread now and you’ve probably made your call, but I used these threads a lot when we were designing so if sizing helps anyone then it’s worth it to me! I am a size 5.25, stone is probably 1.75ish? Don’t know exactly. I love everything about it and think it proportioned well with my finger and the halo 🙂 sorry about the dirty hands picture — we were renovating our new house the day after he proposed and it just looked so bright! Last picture is immediately after he proposed when my mom was holding my hand and looking at the ring 🙂
