So I always thought I would have a formal wedding. I love getting dressed up and wearing fancy dresses. My wedding dress is rather formal, our wedding is at 6 pm at a country club BUT my Fiance and his groomsmen are wearing black suits. (My Fiance was adamant about suits.)
I don’t want people to show up in tuxes and feel uncomfortable since the groom is not wearing one.
What attire should I put on the invite?
Black Tie Optional?
Does anything mean: "men wear suits but women wear fancy dresses"?
Please help! My invite proofs are due soon.

What a good question! I decided to google this one and you can use either Cocktail Attire or Semi-Formal.. this is what about.com had to say about the two:
Cocktail Attire means short, elegant dresses for her and dark suits for him.
More about cocktail dresses
Semi-Formal or After Five means that tuxes are not required, nor are long dresses. An evening wedding (after 6 PM) would still dictate dark suits for him, and a cocktail dress for her. Daytime semi-formal events mean a suit for him and an appropriate short dress or dressy suit for her

Thanks for your help.
I wasn’t sure if Cocktail Attire would be confusing to people. I plan to give all the bridal party a description of the attire if anyone asks.
I wasn’t sure if there was a new trendy way to say the attire rather than typical Emily Post.
